The vigil was one day before the House of Commons in London was due to vote on the recognition of a Palestinian State.
Thus far 130 countries in the world recognise Palestine, including most of most of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The so-called `civilised west` lags behind with the US, Britain, Australasia and most of Europe failing to recognise Palestine. The current total is expected to increase when Sweden becomes the first member of the EU to recognise Palestine and Britain may well follow suit.

And another thing: I don't seem to be able to spot Israel on your maps.
And Sweden hasn't recognised 'Palestine' - the newly elected government has stated this intent. Last time I looked, Sweden was still a parliamentary democracy.

Is Africa and Latin America part of the old Soviet bloc?

I hadn’t realised that Africa and South America, Iceland, India, Indonesia, China and South Korea were all former members of the Soviet bloc. Dear me, this is either bad geography on my part or maybe `wee, mad Vlad` is building up an even bigger empire than the old Soviet one.
At 2213 Monday evening 13th October the British Parliament voted 274-12 to recognise a Palestinian state.
134 states already support Palestinian statehood, and last week Sweden joined them. Iceland became the first western nation to recognise the state of Palestine in July 2013.
Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Malta, Poland and Romania and now Sweden all recognise Palestine – others will surely follow.
136 countries now recognise Palestine – out of 206 listed states of the world – this amounts to 66% of the world.
