Climate Action 114 Media Blog

18-04-2009 00:10 | Climate Chaos | Other Press | Repression | Nottinghamshire

More attention has been drawn to the urgency of climate action and the need to to defend the right to protest against police excesses by the 'failed protest' than if it had gone ahead.

Notts Indymedia is clearly the first port of call for news and comment on the ongoing situation, however it may also be helpful to keep the subject in the public eye through other media.

Other journalists should have the integrity to acknowledge Notts Indymedia as their source, so that their readers could check here for an independent view of the subject.

Solidarity for the Coal Conspiracy 114

16-04-2009 13:33 | COP15 Climate Summit 2009 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Social Struggles | Nottinghamshire

Arrested for conspiracy, 114 people alleged to have been planning to shut down E-On's massive Ratcliffe coal fired power station have apparently found themselves voiceless, advised not to issue any statements to the media or friends. Unrelated groups however have been stepping into the void to express support for the alleged action and remind people that taking direct action to cut greenhouse emissions is something we should all be doing. Groups such as Rising Tide, Plane Stupid, Climate Rush, the Camp for Climate Action and others have already issued such statements and no doubt it would be great if a diverse range of groups did likewise.

Mass arrests for thought crime

14-04-2009 10:51 | Climate Chaos | Repression | Nottinghamshire

A mass police raid in the early hours of yesterday morning resulted in the arrests of 114 individuals in the grounds of a Sneinton school. Those arrested have been released on bail following questioning related to “suspicion of conspiracy to commit trespass and aggravated criminal damage”. The police are saying that those arrested were “planning a period of prolonged disruption to the safe running of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station”. The Nottingham Evening Post, in it’s usual measured and objective style, is saying that there was a “plot to attack a power station”.

Nottingham's Climate Criminals

13-04-2009 13:55 | Climate Chaos | Nottinghamshire | Sheffield

It may be only speculation that "Officers said they believed those arrested were planning to protest at nearby Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station."

Whilst awaiting clarification, read earlier reports which might inform any questions as to why Ratcliffe MIGHT be considered a target of such concern and motivated action.

Eastcroft, the end of the campaign?

08-03-2009 23:16 | Climate Chaos | Health | Nottinghamshire

Eastcroft Expansion given the `Green Light'

We were extremely disappointed and frustrated to hear that after 4 years of successful campaigning, the Government has over ruled Nottingham City's Councils decision to refuse the expansion of Eastcroft incinerator in Nottingham.

Waste (we don't) Recycle Group (WRG) have now effectively passed the final hurdle to build their third incinerator and import 100,000 tonnes of waste a year into Nottingham, to incinerate it rather than recycle.

This is a severe blow to our campaign, to democracy and for the future of our health and environment. Over 3000 Nottingham residents said no in a petition, the Planning Officer said no as did Nottingham City Council, yet the Government ignored this and have now forced this onto the people of Nottingham.
