what kind of life can there be AFTER THE OIL CRASH?!

09-01-2004 13:39

IF YOU’RE LIKE 99% OF THE POPULATION, YOU’VE NEVER HEARD THE TERM "PEAK OIL". I HAD’T HEARD IT UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO. SINCE THEN, HOWEVER, MY WORLDVIEW AND BASIC ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT MY OWN INDIVIDUAL FUTURE HAVE BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN.
WHETHER YOUR'E 25 OR 75, A LAWYER OR AN AUTO MECHANIC, WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ WILL SHAKE THE FOUNDATIONS OF YOUR LIFE.

Licenses for German nuclear waste transports to Sellafield

08-01-2004 14:54

German nukes, Stade recently switched off.
The anti-nuclear transports group Aktionsbuendnis CASTOR-Widerstand Neckarwestheim reports that the “Federal Radiation Protection Agency” (BfS) has licensed another nuclear waste consignment from the Neckarwestheim power station (about 45 km north of Stuttgart) to the plutonium factory at Sellafield in northwest England. The group says the licence is for two Castor caskets containing a total of 14 spent fuel rods and is valid until 15 March. Also valid to that date is the transportation from the Krümmel nuke in northern Germany of eight caskets to Sellafield.

EU-Ministers Propose Yet Another Loophole in EU CO2-Emission Reduction Market

23-12-2003 21:02

A majority of EU-ministers spoke out last weekend on the 2005 European emission reduction market, advocating an unlimited use of climate projects abroad by private companies. Then it will be much cheaper to comply with the Kyoto reduction-targets in Europe; by linking these projects with the EU-trading regime, the price of reducing emissions falls sharply. Real solutions are being postponed and the dependence on the fossil fuel economy will be broadened. Earlier at the Climate Conference in Milan, the UN agreed on using genetically modified trees to "absorb" greenhousegasses and accordingly to produce tradeable "carbon credits".

Media Hacklab at Freedom Press

23-12-2003 01:26

A new Media Hacklab is getting started in the east end of London. Based at the Freedom Press bookshop and social centre, it aims to be an open political space for alternative media, free software, training courses (e.g. GNU/Linux for activists, GNU/Linux for computer virgins, web design), community projects and various other great stuff. The projects that happen there will depend on the commitment of those involved. There is an open meeting planned to discuss both the practical work that needs doing and the political foundations of the lab:

The Free Software Movement - Anarchism in Action

22-12-2003 23:45

What are the implications of the free software (called 'open source' by business leaders) movement for anarchists and activists in general? Could things be learned from it? Just how anarchist is GNU/Linux and other such projects? Little analysis or debate has been had on this. My article intends to stir some.

Anthrax - State of the Art

22-12-2003 16:57

The anthrax used in the attacks of 2001 was a highly sophisticated dry powder bioweapon containing silica coatings that were processed with the aid of a super-specialized siloxane binder. What nation developed this process? Who manufactured the 2001 anthrax? Why did the FBI claim the anthrax was an unsophisticated product that almost any microbiologist could create? We are here to answer these questions.
