Protesters from around the north of England gathered in Scunthorpe on Sunday 15 March to voice their opposition to the Great British Circus and its enslavement of wild animals. There is no chance of anything resembling a natural life for the elephants, lions, tigers, and others paraded around by the circus, which has finished its run in Scunthorpe and is now moving on to Louth, Skegness, and beyond. Protests have been following it every step of the way.

On Saturday, Nottingham Student Peace Movement hosted a film festival with an ecological theme. The films featured explored the environmental problems humanity faces and ways we can take action to do something about them. It was inspiring stuff!

Eastcroft Expansion given the `Green Light'


We were extremely disappointed and frustrated to hear that after 4 years of successful campaigning, the Government has over ruled Nottingham City's Councils decision to refuse the expansion of Eastcroft incinerator in Nottingham.



Waste (we don't) Recycle Group (WRG) have now effectively passed the final hurdle to build their third incinerator and import 100,000 tonnes of waste a year into Nottingham, to incinerate it rather than recycle.



This is a severe blow to our campaign, to democracy and for the future of our health and environment. Over 3000 Nottingham residents said no in a petition, the Planning Officer said no as did Nottingham City Council, yet the Government ignored this and have now forced this onto the people of Nottingham.

On Thursday 12th March, 7pm in the Hallward Library Screening room, University Park, Nottingham Student Peace Movement will be showing the classic film Punishment Park. The film raises the difficult question of how to face state repression - is violence or pacifism the answer? How will we respond when the authorities come for us?

On International Women's Day, Sunday 8 March 2009, from 12.00-14.00hrs at Speakers’ Corner (Junction of Queen Street and King Street, just off Old Market Square), Nottingham City Centre, the University of Nottingham Amnesty Society will be holding campaign action calling for support for every female victim of violence in the UK whenever they need it and wherever they live.
