People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has been classified as as a “terrorist threat” in a document created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The USDA created a new “APHIS Facility Security Profile” form [see PDF] to send to animal experimentation facilities. Recipients were asked to answer about their experiences, and return the form to the government so the USDA can better meet their needs

The following gives the unsavoury flavour of the depth of corruption. The second article goes into greater detail concerning official corruption in this case. It is time honourable Members of Parliament took up the baton and demand answers. The behaviour of police and the judiciary is typical of the Middle Ages, not of the 21st century!

Danish Police Warn Cop15 Protestors Not To Publish Legal Advice

25-11-2009 09:46 | COP15 Climate Summit 2009 | Climate Chaos | Repression | Social Struggles | World

Believe it or not that's the latest message being conveyed by the Danish media this morning.

The Copenhagen Post reports that Mogens Lauridsen, deputy chief superintendent of Copenhagen Police, has made a statement on advice for protestors published on the Internet.

The advice for protestors includes an explanation of laws which the police may use against them as well as their legal rights under Danish law. Such legal guides are often published ahead of protests to inform demonstrators of the risks they may face and advice about how police may act towards them - during protests and if they are arrested. They are of particular relevance where protestors are coming from other countries where laws and police procedures differ.

The Danish police force, like all police forces, does not have an unblemished record when it comes to the treatment of protestors.

Recently a letter signed by members of several British NGOs including Friends of the Earth, Jubilee Debt Campaign and Christian Aid was sent to the Danish embassy (and published in the Guardian) highlighting concerns over the curtailing of legitimate protest around the Copenhagen climate summit after new repressive public order legislation was proposed. The legislation proposed includes an extension of pre-emptive detention from 6hours to 12 hours.

National differences in public order laws also led a mainstream NGO coalition to ask for clarification over whether its members wearing panda costumes would be arrested on the streets of Copenhagen, since in Denmark the wearing of masks (or even the assumed intention to wear a mask) can be an arrestable offence.

The people from around the world planning to protest at the Cop15 climate summit deserve to know how the police may treat them, and no civilised society should object to such information being published.

Tomorrow (Friday 20th) a court in Lausanne Switzerland will hear an appeal by photographer Guy Smallman who was crippled by a deliberately targeted Police Stun Grenade during the G8 protests in 2003. Mr Smallman previously won his case but the State of Geneva successfully appealed the first ruling. The Swiss Federal Court will hear arguments from both sides tomorrow morning and makes its decision in the same session. If Mr Smallman wins then he will qualify for compensation for his injuries. If he loses then he will owe thousands in legal costs to the State of Geneva.

He has been supported in his fight by both UK Indymedia and the National Union of Journalists over the past six years.

Corporate Watch: NDET issues bail conditions designed to prevent protest

19-11-2009 11:39 | SHAC | Animal Liberation | Policing | Repression | Birmingham | World

Following two house raids in Evesham and Gosport in the early hours of Tuesday 10th November, four animal rights activists were arrested, charged with conspiracy to commit criminal damage and given wide-ranging bail conditions designed specifically to prevent their participation in any facet of animal rights campaigning. The charges are based upon the seizure of a solitary piece of 'evidence' in a raid a year earlier.

The raids commenced at 7am when police wearing balaclavas, including members of the National Domestic Extremism Team (NDET), raided two houses. At one address masked police scaled the walls and broke windows, instead of knocking on the door, to gain entry. At the other, 20-30 police burst in brandishing fire extinguishers. From these two raids four people were arrested and later charged with conspiracy to cause criminal damage. The arresting officer was DC Mace, of the NDET London, and the accusations relate to several minor acts of criminal damage in the south of England, claimed by anonymous animal rights activists.
