Real2Reel Vol2 videos available now

13-09-2004 17:40

Video
OUT NOW - R2R VOL2

It's been over a year since the release of the first compilation of Real2Reel videos. Now a second volume is available and feature 14 videos produced between September 2003 and September 2004. All the content is provided under the Creative Commons licence which means you are free (and encouraged) to copy and distribute the content as long as it isn't done for commercial purposes. Most of these videos have been available to download as modem friendly, low bandwidth versions from Indymedia UK. However, now they are available as a screening quality PAL MPEG1 VCD, which is compatible with most DVD players. The CD is also PC FRIENDLY and HTML enriched to provide access to additional content such as audio files.

It's been a difficult period for Real2Reel. We had our nice big external hard drive blown up at DSEi, our camera and all it's accesories stolen the day before an eviction attempt at the Wombles occupied social centre and then our minidisc recorder stolen at another social centre. But somehow, we've manged to continue covering grassroot direct action and protest in one form or another. We hope to get more focused in the near future and put together some more indepth issue based stuff as well as our more usual feel good shorts. Hope you find them useful...

Our website can be found via www.real2reel.co.nr where you can find out further information about Real2Reel. To get in touch, email  real2reel@riseup.net or phone phone 07050 618445. If you fancy donating some money to help us cover expenses and maintain our equipment, cheques can be sent payable to Real2Reel c/o PO Box 77, Totnes, Devon or contact us for bank account details.

In Iraq On 11th September, 2004.

11-09-2004 15:55

In the last 3 years the direct pain that was felt in the United States has been exported to other parts of the world. The total number of deceased on the day of the attacks on New York, Washington and Pensylvania fell just short of 3000. In Iraq today the figure for the dead is not counted - but is widely believed to be in the tens of thousands. Now over 1000 US troops have also been killed. The resistance to the "Occupation" is increasing. The question must be asked over and over - When will it stop?

IRAQ: Medical Facilities, Pigeons & Propaganda.

09-09-2004 07:37

Helen visits Al-Nahrwan, 30 km from Baghdad. Here she visits a rudimentary clinic. Operations are as little as $3. There is, however, no safety net if things go wrong. There is no anaesthetic, just Diazapam. The procedures were carried out professionally, with what little facilities were available. However it simply isn't acceptable that Iraqis should have this as a medical service.

ESF Autonomous Spaces + Initiatives Update

08-09-2004 16:34

Autonomous Spaces During the ESF in London, 13-17th October 2004.

We want to create open spaces for networking, exchanges, celebration, thinking, and action. We believe our ways of organising and acting should reflect our political visions, unlike the UK ESF organising process which has not reflected the values and charters to which it aspires.

Some of us believe that it is possible to rebuild the ESF to make it closer to the ideals it claims, others wish to go further and say that it only represents a space for the co-option of struggles, and as such, should be opposed. However we are all united in our diversity, and in our desire to act together in ways that respect these differences.

There are now several self organised and autonomous spaces - they range from legally hired venues to squatted social centres. We invite you to participate in the autonomous spaces, to help shape them, to organise workshops, discussions, creative interventions, and practical alternatives.

un reve illusoire

08-09-2004 11:24

ordre.

Iraq: Media Suppresion & Yet Another Bomb

Smashed up taxi at bomb site.
How can the truth possibly come out of Iraq if the media are too scared and too weak to even attempt to search for it? Yet another bomb goes off near Welsh activists. They document what happens immediately after a bomb goes off in Baghdad.

Iraq: Near miss for Welsh Activists

02-09-2004 15:39

Where the bomb exploded
After only a few days back in Iraq, Welsh activist Kevin Williams is given a stark reminder of the chaos in the country. A roadside bomb explodes outside Helen William's appartment - shattering her kitchen window. Kevin comments on the opinions of the ordinary Iraqi and their feeling of despair at the state of their country. Yet they are still wonderfully hospitable and welcoming, despite no jobs, security or hope for the future.

It has been an extremely interesting week here in new york, I have never been at an event that has had such a consistent level of protests, actions, meetings and creative responses spread over more than a week. There have literally been thousands of people on the streets every day since friday protesting against the Bush agenda.
