Notts Indymedia announces new collaboration

01-04-2010 07:34

Notts Indymedia is pleased to announce a new era of collaboration with the Northcliffe Group, owners of the Evening Post.

The agreement will see content taken from the Indymedia newswire appearing in the Post, opening up the radical message of Indymedia to a larger audience than ever before. In return Indymedia will be able to use images collected by the Post's team of roving cameramen.

Editor of the Post Malcolm Pheby said, "This is great. It will allow us to inform our readers about a part of the city we've historically covered poorly if at all".

It is a controversial decision but the majority of the Notts Indymedia collective think that it is a move in the right direction. "Some people will accuse us of selling out," said one collective member, "but the increased exposure we'll get will be worth it."

Schnews 4 Indymedia together for eva tru luv

15-02-2010 23:12

Hi
Speaking as someone who waits with baited breath for the latest issue of Schnews to appear to give me anarchically comical insight from the back streets of be- right- on...

And speaking as someone who also clicks on indymedia.uk.org to get the latest hot from the streets reportage coming from legions of activist-journalists “being the Media” at the latests heroic attempt to crash the towers of Mammon........

I was slightly perplexed by the bizarre genetic merging of Indymedia and Schnews to create the bastard of offspring Frankenstein know as.......

How Alternative Media Provide The Crucial Critique Of The Mainstream

20-01-2010 14:21

On January 4, Tim Luckhurst, former BBC journalist and current Professor of Journalism at the University of Kent, wrote an article in the Independent with the dramatic title, ‘Demise of news barons is just a Marxist fantasy.’ Luckhurst argued that leftist critics are gleefully predicting the end of corporate journalism:

“There will be no further need for newspapers or broadcasters to host debates and represent public opinion. The internet will let every citizen speak for themselves. The masses will seize the means of media production. We will witness an era of revolutionary change.” ( http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/opinion/tim-luckhurst-demise-of-news-barons-is-just-a-marxist-fantasy-1856668.html)

NUJ Annual Delegate Meeting Supports Indymedia

20-11-2009 16:20

At today's NUJ's policy-making annual delegate meeting (ADM) in Southport, a motion supporting Indymedia was carried with nobody speaking against it.

Media Freedon - Indymedia Support - Motion 12

Police seizure of a UK Indymedia server in Manchester, has prompted the ADM to call for better legal safeguards for all online content. In Motion 12, the NEC has been instructed to provide support for Indymedia through members working with the site. Charley Allan of the Morning Star said: “They need our help – they’re under attack. Indymedia are vulnerable to the police.”
