(Field) IMC Kingsnorth on-line at Climate Camp

Tonight we have the temporary Field IMC at the Camp for Climate Action, Deansgate Ridge nr Kingsnorth on-line and running with terminals for publishing via a bidirectional satellite link. We shall be running minimal services from tomorrow onwards. We'll be fully running by Sunday/Monday of the camp.

Be The Media at the Climate Camp

For this years climate camp the alternative media provision, documtation group and the camp media team are working much closer together to aid communication, reduce duplication of effort and running back and forth and improve the efficient flow of information. Operating under the banner 'be the media' you will find all the stuff expected from an Independent Media Centre, along with the facilities required by the media team to liaise with the main stream media.

Indipendent journalist detained on way to g8 protest

Last night (June 27), three Hong Kong citizen journalists who have
been registered with the Citizens' Media Center (Sapporo) were
detained by Immigration, and were on the verge of being deported.
This morning, Susan George (ATTAC France) was stopped and questioned
at the airport. Ms George is 74 years old, and her detention
demonstrates a lack of humanity on the part of authorities.

IMC Rosario (argentina) : contruibutor & photographer attacked

Gustavo Cabrera a contributor to IMC Rosario in Argentina was attacked whilst covering protests at the university in that city. The assault seriously wounded his left eye. The incident happened on May 23rd as the long standing "correspondent" of the election of the universities rector, a process which began in June 2007, was recording comments and conversation on a MP3 with a well known member of the socialist students' union.

Why are the police using surveillance on journalists?

Police should stop routine surveillance of reporters and photographers covering demonstrations in London, the National Union of Journalists has told Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear made the call in a letter to Smith after receiving complaints that journalists, particularly photographers, were facing what amounted to harassment by members of the Metropolitan Police Forward Intelligence Team (FIT).

The following is a response by some IMC UK activists to a defamatory article by an anonymous author published in the new, Manchester-based magazine SHIFT (issue 3, May-Sep 2008), under the title "Go Hamas Go"? Why Indymedia UK is losing support [1]. Although this may generate for SHIFT publicity they don't deserve, we thought it our duty to clarify the facts and refute these false allegations and accusations.
