Repression in Mexico continues as UK prepares for action

02.11.2006 12:14 | Oaxaca Uprising | London | World

As the Federal Preventative Police (PFP) continue their advance on the city of Oaxaca in the hopes of dislodging the Oaxacan Peoples’ Popular Assembly (APPO), the determined residents are resisting the invasion with any means available to them [Pics: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5]. This is being marked with a demonstration outside the Mexican Embassy in London at 5pm today, to coincide with the Mexican Day of the Dead [Earlier demo report] . Afterwards, there is a video screening of Brad Will's final footage [bittorrents: Es | En | DVD ] and discussion at RampART at 8pm. Meanwhile, the planned solidarity film screening on Saturday is temporarily on hold, following the eviction of the Dalston Squat on Thursday [Pictures: 1 | 2 Video: 1].

There is also a mass demonstration against climate change taking place in London on Saturday, marching to Trafalgar Square.

What do we do next??

I would suggest to create a Committe of Solidarity with the people of Oaxaca.

The PFP have tried again to defeat the people of Oaxaca. They didn't succeed!!

Troops out of Oaxaca!!!

Ulises Ruiz out of Oaxaca!!!

For the Release of all political prisioners!!

Long live the commune of Oaxaca!!!

Committee of Solidarity with the people of Oaxaca.

Alejandra,

That is a brilliant idea. Unfortunately unless you do something when you think of it then it doesn't get done. So I nominate you to be the chair of the committee until such times as it gets properly organised. I suggest you get a bank account set-up, a website set-up and an email list. I suggest you get an English language speaking secretary. I suggest you contact the IM volunteers who are protesting outside the Mexican embassy in London as they are obviously the most committed people. I suggest you also contact the Edinburgh-Chiapas Solidarity group.  http://www.edinchiapas.org.uk

What help do you need ?

Thanks for your e-mail.

We don't need the formalities of bank account and other etc.in order to support the struggle of the Oaxaca people.

I have been myself to the demos in front of the Mexican Embassy and I have the feeling that we need to coordinate the activities of solidarity in order to make an impact and get as many people as we can involved.

I don't mind to organise a mailing list, however a committe of one person sounds ridiculous to me... never mind to get 'appointed' as secretary.

In other countries in Europe activitis have managed to agree in doing common activities in support of Oaxaca and denouncing, among other things the killing of the journalist Brad Will, and the repression.

Only yesterday the people of Oaxaca managed to get PFF out of their city by building barricades and they need our support and solidarity.

Best,
Alejandra

Not everybody can travel to London

So we should organise events all over the UK at the same day
Hopefully this will have a stronger impact
