Drake's Island occupied - declared nuclear free state

On 13 May 12 anti-nuclear weapons protestors from the Plymouth Trident Ploughshares (Tamarians) along with supporters, squatted Drake’s Island in Plymouth Sound. A peace camp has been set up and the island declared a nuclear free state. The protest highlights the UK’s breach of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which is now being reviewed at an important at the UN in New York. The refit of the UK’s nuclear armed and nuclear powered Trident submarines in Devonport Dockyard plays a large part in Britan’s violation of this international treaty. Read more >>

The tr(((i)))ke is coming!

the tr(((i)))ke in action (artists impression ;-)
On tuesday 3rd May, a couple of intrepid media activists will start a 110 mile cycle to bring a heavy old tricycle from Dorset to London. On arrival, the rusty old workhorse will be de-rusted, painted and then equipped with laptops, wifi and a hefty 12 volt power system.

It is estimated that the gruelling delivery journey will take four days if all goes well. The two cyclists will take it in turns to pedal while the other rest on the back of the trike. Attempts will be made to hitch a lift back to London with the huge trike but it's considered pretty unlikely to work. During the trip leaflets about Indymedia and the G8 bike carvan will be distributed to curious bystanders.

If you happen to be driving from the South Coast to London with an empty van, trailer or a large roof rack, perhaps you could offer a lift. If you live on route then offers of crash space would be much appreciated. Read more >>

text from rising tide banner drop leaflet

Look up – the trees opposite BP’s HQ in St. James’ Square have been occupied by a group of concerned citizens. They have hung (with any luck) a banner reading 'BP fuels climate chaos'

Some will stay the night and greet BP workers for the second time tomorrow morning, to urge them to try to find a less destructive job, and to underline the company’s complicity in the climate crisis we’re all facing. They also hope to inspire others to take direct action for the planet and its people.

Climate campaigners scale Prescott's roof + fit solar panels

26th April 05

Greenpeace volunteers fitted solar panels to John Prescott's roof and hung a huge banner across his house this morning that says: Oi 2 Jags! Hit targets, not voters.

The Deputy Prime Minsiter is putting Britain's climate change targets at risk by failing to make UK homes more energy efficient. According to the UN, climate change kills 150,000 people every year, and Tony Blair has described the threat as the gravest we face. Read more >>
