"Hurry and Wait" for Catholic Workers at Newbury Court House today!

Ploughshares activists Chris Cole, Sr. Susan Clarkson from St. Francis House/ Oxford Catholic Worker and Fr. Martin Newell from Giuseppe Conlon House/ London Catholic Worker are presently in Newbury Court for a plea hearing. Oxford - Bradford : 'Freedom of Speech'

Gaza Monologues Screening at the Pegasus Theatre on Friday January 21th 7pm

With a fresh batch of 'secret' Wikileaks on Sri Lanka out yesterday, the 'private' visit of Dr. Liam Fox to Sri Lanka, as arranged for this weekend, is canceled.
Questions have been raised in UK parliament on the content of the 'private' meeting the Defence secretary had with Mahinda Rajapakse in the Oliver Messel Suite of the Dorchester Hotel in London, 1st December 2010.

Uninvisible Rally

This lunchtime saw Bonn Square in Oxford briefly transformed into Hyde Park, as a “Speakers' Corner” gave local people the opportunity to make their voices heard. Disabled people, parents, job seekers, teenagers and young people facing an insecure future, as well as older people facing poverty and discrimination, all spoke out about the damage that the cuts will do to their lives and their community. A to Barclays (Oxford)

Hounded out (Oxford)

The Fox and Hounds pub has been derelict for four years and Tesco want to build yet another store there. This is a depressing example of the destruction of our communities by an increasingly individualistic society. On 5th December a large group took back the space and started turning it into a social centre.

Tory cuts... and Labour cuts (Oxford)

The Tory-led County Council plan to close nearly half (20) of our local libraries. A similar number of youth centres are to be closed down, with over £4 million cuts to youth services announced. This is an attack on the standards of living that we have fought for over decades of struggle.

Radcliffe reclaimed (Oxford)

In Oxford, 500 people gathered on Cornmarket to protest against cuts to education, and ended up occupying the famous Bodlean Library for over 28 hours. Students from local schools and colleges joined those from Oxford Uni, Brookes and Ruskin.

President Rajapakse in the Hillary Term

Sri Lankan Government spokesman and Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at the Cabinet Decision Media Conference held at the Information Department auditorium yesterday said that a new President was appointed to the Oxford Union since the term of the former President James Kingston ended the following day President Mahinda Rajapaksa was scheduled to address the Union.
