Pics: Vigil at Carfax

A vigil for all those killed in Iraq took place on Wednesday 1st March at Carfax, Oxford, following news of the death of the 100th British soldier. People held candles, banners condemning Bush and Blair for the war, and read aloud the names of those killed and brief details of the circumstances. On a chilly night attendance was modest, but it was nevertheless a dignified and moving occasion. Read more >>

Oxford police left standing as animal rights protesters run rings around them.

Billed as the latest large scale protest in the city following the resumption of building at the controversial new animal laboratory on South Parks Road, the animal rights protestors today adopted diversionary and autonomous tactics that left the police panicking.

Yesterday West Berkshire Council failed to object to AWE Aldermaston's planned new laser - a facility designed to allow AWE to recreate the conditions in a nuclear explosion. This will allow the UK to develop a new generation of nuclear weapons. In response Block the Builders have called a blockade of the WMD factory at Aldermaston on this Monday (30 Jan 2006).
