Invitation to the Dissent! Network Gathering in Edinburgh 17th - 19th September

The G8 (Group of eight most industrialised nations) Summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, about 40 miles/70 kilometres away from Edinburgh, in Scotland from 6-8th of July 2005. In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements. Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that resists the Summit, and forms a lasting movement against capitalism.

The next Dissent! Gathering will take place in Edinburgh on 17th-19th September 2004.

Sunday Free Cafe at Bilston Glen Protest Site, 1 august

On sunday, August 1, we're having another Sunday free cafe. Come down and hang out (rest after the rts?), drink some tea and eat some food. Everything is free of charge. All day event. From Edinburgh, take bus 37 or 37A towards Penicuik and get off at the first bus stop in Bilston. Go through the gate next to the bus stop and follow the path that leads to the camp. Aborigine wants Australian depute premier's seat

At a function in Gerrmany. Goodooga, 20 July - - An Australian Aboriginal sheep farmer and rights activist, Michael Anderson, is taking on the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, John Anderson, for the NSW Outback seat of Gwydir in the coming federal election. Should he win the seat, which he’s contending for The Greens, Anderson would be only the second Aborigine in the national Australian parliament. Australian Aborigines number about 420,000 in a population of 20 million. They are the most disadvantaged Australians. Some claim that many live in worse than Third World conditions in the midst of plenty.

American Indians Protest Scottish Power - July 16 - 24th
Support native American Indians from the Karuk, Yurok, Hoopa, and Klamath Tribes as they journey to Scotland to protest Scottish Power's control of the river Klamath. These tribes from Northern California and Southern Oregon evolved with Salmon, which are now being decimated because of the series of dams blocking migration. These dams are owned by Scottish Power.

Anti Nuclear Oratorio Premieres In Parliament Hall

Inside Parliament Hall Today a new oratorio, "Trident: A British War Crime", was given a special premiere in Parliament Hall, Edinburgh, for the benefit of the Scottish High Court Judges, Advocates and Lawyers. Performed without permission by 17 non-violent peace activists from Trident Ploughshares this new oratorio highlights the hypocrisy of "justice" around Trident, Britain's nuclear weapons system. Peace protestors are branded criminals for taking action against these illegal weapons of mass destruction, while Trident itself continues to be maintained, sucking resources away from other vital public services.
