Scottish Police Attack Sensationalist Press Over G8 Taser Gun Deployment


Chief Constable David Strang, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland, and Tayside Police Chief Constable John Vine, the officer in charge of policing the summit, have both denied that Taser guns will be deployed against G8 protestors and have attacked the press for being sensationalist, accusing The Scotsman of a "dangerous form of journalism".

JOURNALISTS TO SUE POLICE FOR GENOA G8 VIOLENCE

GENOA - Italy's press union, FNSI, on Thursday said it had joined anti-globalization protestors who are suing 28 police officials accused of brutality during an international summit here in 2001. The union said it was suing the police on behalf of journalists who were beaten and had equipment seized during a raid on the Pascoli school, which was used as an independent press centre during the Group of Eight summit.

G8 Gleneagles Road Closures, Exclusion Zones and offer of rally for just 5000

On Monday 6th May, Tayside police announced the initial security cordon plan (or as it's been labelled the 'traffic management plan') for the Gleneagles Summit in July. This will see local road closures to the west of Auchterarder, as well as the closure of rights of way through the southern part of the Gleneagles estate. Police will also be stationed at the junctions at Blackford, Loaninghead, Auchterarder and Aberuthven, an no doubt Braco and other junction locations.

Outspoken peace and justice activist and media critic, Cavlan had called his press conference at the state capital in St Paul Minnesota on the same day that MP Gallaway was being smeared by fellow Minnesotoan, Senator Coleman.

G8 Alternatives announce not to accept road blocks during G8 summit

G8 Alternatives website, 17th of may, 2005, 23:18 As currently announced via the mainstream media, the planned G8 Alternatives demonstration against the G8 previously announced to take place on the 6th of july, from the meeting at 12 o' clock noon, passing via the front of Gleneagles hotel, in which the summit is held to the park in Auchterarder, got its permission denied by the authorities.
This coincides with the announcement of road closures during the G8 summit.

Inter Milan accepts challenge of playing Zapatista football team

subcommandante marcos playing football, by Alessio from LaJornada As previously reported on Indymedia Scotland and Indymedia UK, plagiarised though of BBC world news, Subcommandante Marcos from the EZLN in Chiapas, Mexico, wrote an invitation for a solidarity football game to Inter Milan.
Now the solidarity group B.A.S.T.A. Reports on Indymedia Germany that Inter Milan would have accepted the challenge, however, not yet detemining the time and location of the match.

Political Policing: Lothian Police Website Promoting Make Poverty History

Quite an amazing new website from Lothian and Borders Police.

Which while it deals with policing enquiries and potential road closures and announces a new G8 info telephone number, it also heavily promotes the Make Poverty History demonstration in Ediburgh the weekend before the G8 Summit.
