Sunday Times reports Faslane base may 'close' on G8 Demo Day + G8A Int Mtg

Sunday times reports many staff may be given the day off. Not that surprising - on most faslane submarine base big blockade days which have happened in the past, many staff are given the day off, essential staff come in early to beat the blockades and some come by boat.

The faslance base 'source' is quoted as saying "We’re used to this sort of thing but the people planning it are not the ordinary peaceful protesters" - maybe they should tell Trident Ploughshares, CND and Scottish CND who are, as usual, planning the blockade!

Article also covers the G8Alternatives international organising meeting that has been going on in Scotland this weekend.

Report on Sandra Bakutz trial in Turkey

The main body of this is a report I wrote for the Scottish Socialist Party of the March 30 trial of Sandra Bakutz, an Austrian who was arrested in Turkey in February and charged with belonging to a banned organisation. Pastor Makielokele Nzelengi Daly - or Detainee 4707

Pastor Daly "They lied to my children."

"I asked them, what are you doing here? It was then that the children told me that "oh, we were told we were coming to visit you." And I told them “no no no no, thats not reality, the reality is you've been arrested with me."

"My daughter asked me ‘why should we be arrested, what did we do? Should we be arrested for nothing?’ Those kind of words are very painful to a father."

Pope J Paul - PBS Documents his Evils in LAtin America

No denying hypocracy - the Pope Put the CHurch above helping the Poor and oppres There was an opportunity there. There was a moment in the history of Latin America. There was a moment in the history of the church. He decided not to go down the route of change. Instead he chose another route. He chose to end the experimentation, to throttle that initiative.
