US prosperity is a credit-based prosperity. Greenspan's dilemma is that interest rates must rise to reduce the trade deficit ($617B in 2004) and keep foreign investors ($2B a day) though this could brust the real estate bubble and raise consumer prices.

Surprised the NYT is covering this at all. I thought the hyper rich wanted to remain anonymous. Oh, oops, except for Warren E. Buffett, George Soros and Ted Turner, once again, no one actually knows who they are. NYT is just stoking the fire, but not really anything more than that. No where to put the response except Bush. But it's global and the hyper rich are worldwide, not US nationals. They kept all the sheeple busy with 'Vote for John Kerry! For godssake don't let Nader in there!' while they made off with the world's paychecks.
