House of Lords Crossrail Committee farce - leaving petitioners unprotected

18-07-2008 13:48

The House of Lords Crossrail Committee presented a fine example of how these UK institutions are failing democratic principles let alone scrutinising the Commons and this also goes for the longstanding peers, one Viscount Colville. The Crossrail Bill is due to receive Royal Assent this Tuesday 22 July 2008, in the recent debates, members of the House of Lords Crossrail Committee, in particular Viscount Colville has suddenly developed an interest in communities and addressing concerns about Crossrail's impacts but this was far from the case when petitioners were being heard.

Fannie, Freddie, Food and Fuel

16-07-2008 18:40

The financial crisis deepens with the nationalization of IndyMac and the likely bailout of Freddie Mac and Fannie May by the US taxpayer. The financial crisis has company as inflation, and in particular huge increases in global food and energy prices, enters the fray.

The American economic model has been discredited and the American century has lasted but a few decades. These developments have and will further open up a new period in the struggle between capital and labor on the world stage and the US working class will have a major role to play as it re-connects with its militant traditions.

George Galloway exposed as he betrays East End over Crossrail - deal with Ken

16-07-2008 08:08

After having done a deal with Ken Livingstone, which involved selling out the East End over Crossrail in true SWP style, George Galloway has been attending the Commons plugging his reputation as a man who cares about the middle East. The man's latest concern is Pakistan while the poor and oppressed in East End continue to suffer at the hands of Tower Hamlets Council and the Respect clique which has joined forces with disreputable contingencies in the Labour, Liberal Democrat and increasingly Conservative Party. In short, George Galloway and his supporters are a fraud. Look at his record

Carnival Against Vivisection! March details, Important Police Information

14-07-2008 21:06

As some of you will already know, the police issued a s12 and 14 to protesters last time there was a protest at Sequani which informed them that no more than 50 protesters could protest near the labs. They are going to need 1000 police to stop us if they think we aren't going to the labs this time.

Some advice for anyone who is attending the carnival.

DON'T TAKE ANYTHING FROM THE POLICE.
DON'T TALK TO THE COPS THEY AREN'T YOUR FRIENDS
FILM THEM, PHOTOGRAPH THEM, COLLECT EVIDENCE

12-07-2008 14:32

First, the "extremists", then the "radicals", then the world

10-07-2008 18:27

The ACPO recently released a strategy with which to tackle "extremism". This was circulated among local authorities and strategic partnerships in order to co-opt their help in delivering it. The strategy seeks to identify, isolate, muffle and divert any protest and concern that is not channelled through the "official" and "normative" streams, and to establish these "extremists" as enemies of democracy. First, they came for the "extremists" ...
