Anatomy of Conspiracy Theory By Zahir Ebrahim

11-03-2010 03:25 | Analysis | Globalisation | Terror War | World

In fact, some of the best cloaking devices for clandestine covert-operations and hidden agendas have been invented by the most brilliant minds – here is one exposition for instance from Ezra Pound: “invent two lies and have the public keep arguing which one of them might be true”. Another is by Leo Strauss – the erudite teacher of the majority of the neo-cons – called “Noble Lies”. A third by the White House, often referred to as “plausible deniability”. Lastly, we also have the “limited hangout” and “modified limited hangout” conspiracies to mislead the public in case “plausible deniability” for governmental wrong-doing doesn't work. But wait, we also have “beneficial cognitive diversity” through “cognitive infiltration” - previously known as COINTELPRO and undercover operations - thanks to the academic regurgitation of Harvard Law Professor Cass Sunstein, now President Obama's Chief Information Officer.

The Accusation that Links Chávez with ETA and the FARC is Fraudulen

"The computer in the hands of the Colombian authorities survived a missile attack which killed several people in the encampment and, by chance, confirmed all the arguments of President Alvaro Uribe to enable him to increase his bellicose internal campaign. Strange as it may sound, the “magic bomb resistant” computer has never been shown in public."

On Cadbury's

07-03-2010 12:09 | Analysis | Globalisation | World

This is a short article on the recent sale of Cadbury's to Kraft, which prompted some moral outrage in the right wing press. It really doesn't belong on Idymedia but I can't find anywhere else to put it as all the discussion boards on the subject seem to have closed. Hopefully you wont mind!

Clinton: US can't prevent Israel attacking Lebanon if Hizbullah continues arming

map of the "New Middle East"
During the Israeli war on Lebanon in 2006, the then US Foreign Minister Condoleezza Rice wrongly predicted the outcome by announcing "the birth pangs of a new Middle East"

Four years later, her successor Hillary Clinton's threats against Lebanon indicate that the next step of the "New Middle East" project will involve a war on multiple fronts: Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

USA: The Plot to Kill Social Security

01-03-2010 14:48 | Analysis | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | World

In Washington each new day brings a fresh call to "reform entitlement programs" — Social Security, Medicare, etc., (in Congress, the word "reform" now means to eliminate, or drastically reduce). Tackling Social Security has been on the to-do list of the corporate elite for years, and they're not waiting any longer.

South Atlantic: Britain May Provoke New Conflict With Argentina

28-02-2010 20:05 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

The Sun, 18 February 2010
On February 18,the UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown stated "We have made all the preparations that are necessary to make sure that the Falkland Islanders are properly protected," [15] although Argentine officials have repeatedly denied the possibility of a military response to British encroachments and provocations in the South Atlantic Ocean.

4 days later, the British Desire Petroleum company began exploring for oil and gas off the Falklands/Las Malvinas, seized from Argentina by Britain in 1833 and fought over by the nations in a 74-day war in 1982.

London's energy grab in the South Atlantic did not go unnoticed in Mexico, where the leaders of 26 South and Central American countries attended the Unity Summit.

Britain is playing with fire and if it ignites a new conflict it could rapidly spread far beyond the waters off the southern tip of South America.

Germany's Unilateral Sanction against Itself and the Unspoken Moral of the Story

27-02-2010 21:04 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | World

Why is Germany ashamed of its past vis-à-vis the Jewish people but not the Iranian or Iraqi Kurdish people? How is it morally consistent for Germany to cry for responsibility, transparency, and honesty regarding production and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the world while failing to apply these same principles to itself?

21st Century Strategy: Militarized Europe, Globalized NATO

27-02-2010 14:38 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates launched into a diatribe against a fictitious peace contagion enveloping Europe – when almost the entire continent is now absorbed by NATO and practically every nation on it has sent troops to a war zone in Asia:

“One of the triumphs of the last century was the pacification of Europe after ages of ruinous warfare. But, ... I believe we have reached an inflection point, where much of the continent has gone too far in the other direction. The demilitarization of Europe – where large swaths of the general public and political class are averse to military force and the risks that go with it – has gone from a blessing in the 20th century to an impediment to achieving real security and lasting peace in the 21st.”

A cultural infection of pacifism. A non-existent demilitarization of Europe which threatens peace. Sentiments of this type have not been voiced in Europe itself since the late 1930s and early 1940s, when like now most of the continent was united under one politico-military power.

Understanding the Nature of the Global Economic Crisis

24-02-2010 17:43 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | World

"The sovereign debt crises that have been unfolding in the past couple years and more recently in Greece, are canaries in the coal mine for the rest of Western “civilization.” The crisis threatens to spread to Spain, Portugal and Ireland; like dominoes, one country after another will collapse into a debt and currency crisis, all the way to America."

Greek capitalism – a tragedy in several parts

24-02-2010 12:30 | Analysis | Globalisation | Other Press | World

Greece is the latest in a line of countries squeezed by the ongoing financial crises continuing to ripple around the world. It is an important case to watch, more so than say Iceland or Ireland, as the situation in Greece is closer to the economic positions of the UK – both have governments who form an important part of economy, and are financially overstretched.

The Iran Threat: more of the same

23-02-2010 19:19 | Analysis | Terror War | Sheffield | World

The pressure is cranking up on Iran. During her recent tour of the Middle East, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton declared that Iran is "moving toward a military dictatorship", because the civilian government is being "supplanted" by the Revolutionary Guard, which "poses a very direct threat to everyone." She added: "We don't want to be engaging while they're building a bomb." About a week earlier US National Security Adviser Jim Jones described the Iran nuclear issue as the "top global security threat."

GATES OF DELUSION: Media Distortions And +Real+ Climate Scandals

22-02-2010 19:49 | Analysis | Climate Chaos | Sheffield | World

Since November last year, the public has been bombarded with the story of stolen emails from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, revealing a supposed "scandal" of scientific malpractice, stupidly and lazily named "climategate". Further media frenzy erupted over an erroneous Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change statement that 80 per cent of Himalayan glacier area would very likely be gone by 2035. Other climate-related storms in a teacup have been appearing in the corporate media almost on a daily basis. This nonsense is distracting attention from a mountain of evidence that human-induced climate change is accelerating and poses a deadly threat to civilisation.

The End of Obama’s Vision of a Nuke-Free World

20-02-2010 17:58 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Ecology | World

To secure America, a president must have the courage to dismantle what, in the past, has been proclaimed as the foundation of our survival, but in reality presents us with the seeds of our destruction—nuclear weapons.

Back in April 2009, in a speech delivered in Prague, US President Barack Obama articulated his vision of a world free of nuclear weapons.

Since that time, however, the Obama administration has offered very little of substance to push this vision forward.
