The London Bombings: Time for Blair to Wake Up or Resign

08-07-2005 10:23 | G8 2005 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Repression | London | World

The US & UK’s oil & war-hungry foreign-policies look set to see London and other major western cities facing years, perhaps decades, of terrorist guerrilla warfare. Could our elected representatives be doing more to speak out against the illegal wars that have precipitated these barbaric acts?

The Voices and the Violence in Auchterarder

08-07-2005 01:28 | G8 2005 | Analysis | World

Audio No borders? Us and them?
When I began to write the day after the march in Gleneagles, it was the violence that griped my mind, that formed the words. I, unlike many of the people I spoke to on wednesday, had been drained by sight of it. I felt the moral force ebb away from our protest even as it happened, and it was my sincere wish to be somewhere else. But there are many other stories of that day, and I shall begin with them, because the worst effect of violence is that nothing else can be heard above it - no other voices find their way through. The issues are forgotten, even if the violence is short lived.

London Calling

08-07-2005 00:03 | Analysis | London | World

British and London authorities should be ashamed of themselves for the events that occurred the 7/7 05 in London. While 1500 London police are over in Scotland, part of a 15,000-strong policing force, watching people chant and march against the G8, they apparently leave the capital unprotected. Anyway Blair first said " it was reasonably clear the attacks had been timed to coincide with the G8 summit in Gleneagles," and then: "the British people will not be intimidated after blasts hit London's transport network". It seems that the exasperation of control on people is unnecessary, since the big efforts against the alleged terrorist are completely useless. Control against potential terroristic attack is hardening since September 11 all over Europe and the United States. Even on 7/7 in many countries, like Italy, the premier declared being in higher risks than before, while the US raised the alert level for the nation's mass transit systems to orange. This means that the rise of the politics of fear may be grow, instead of lowering the politic of war.

general statement on police allowing G8 protest

07-07-2005 18:41 | G8 2005 | Analysis | Free Spaces | Globalisation | World

i know this is the wrong space to publish this kind of mainstream statement, but i posted it on bbc "have your say"- while submitting it I realised that they wont publish it anyway. So, posting it here is kinda just to beat my frustration with the corporate media.

The BBC discussion was on the issue of allowing G8 protests.

U.S. Disinformation War Continues

01-07-2005 05:51 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | World

"It is difficult to fathom that this individual, working under the auspices of the U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela, will not be promoting a pro-US agenda. As evidenced in recently declassified documents from the FBI regarding the Luis Posada Carriles case, it was the FBI officer in Venezuela that maintained contact with Posada Carriles during his years in Venezuela apparently as the liaison between the Cuban terrorist and the U.S. intelligence community."

Debt

27-06-2005 13:55 | G8 2005 | Analysis | Globalisation | Social Struggles | World

Less developed countries' external "debt" impedes their economic development and attempts to reduce poverty. But it generates huge revenues for rich countries. In the decade 1994 to 2004, Brazil paid rich country creditors US$400 billion just in interest, equivalent to the entire population of Brazil working a whole year.(1) "Debt" serves various seamlessly linked purposes, all to the advantage of rich country creditors.
