Otterspool Promenade Under Threat Again

On 28 September Liverpool Council plan to give-away a stretch of public open
space along Otterspool Promenade. This is part of the tree lined grass
embankment that runs along the coast from the Britannia Inn for about 1/2
mile between the Garden Festival site and the Promenade walkway. The
Executive Board meet at Millennium House at 9am next Friday 28th September
to approve the disposal and to include the land in the lease agreement with
Langtree McLean for their Festival Gardens development.

Rossport Solidarity Picket in Reading

On Friday 14th September, Reading Grassroots Action and others from around Reading took part in a picket of a lcoal Shell garage. This picket was made in solidarity with the anti-pipeline/refinery community struggle taking place in Rossport, Ireland.

We protested for about an hour on the forecourt, giving out many leaflets to drivers. The Police arrived just as we left.

This Was Forever, a film about the Allotments in the Olympic Games pathway.

On September 23, Manor Garden Allotments will be bulldozed to make way for a pathway for the Olympic Games in 2012. The site in Hackney Wick, next to the River Lee, has been there for 100 years and was originally bequeathed as a gift to local people to grow their own food. The local community is now scattered and has lost a great resource. Over the past year, film maker Mark Aitken and a group of teenagers have produced a film in tribute to the plot-holders and this special place.
