On Sunday a diving team of The Black Fish successfully released hundreds of bluefin tuna back into the Adriatic Sea from cages at a fish farm near the island of Ugljan, Croatia. The action is marking the start of a new campaign to highlight the lucrative trade in the endangered bluefin tuna, a fish species heavily impacted by illegal overfishing in the Mediterranean Sea.

08-07-2012 17:49

There’s just days to go until a week of action against opencast coal in the Douglas Valley – a place where the ruling class is crushing communities for their own financial gain, where ecological destruction is taking place on a massive scale for the profits of big energy companies and where absentee fat-cat land-lords make millions off land that shouldn’t be theirs . Champion Vegan, Vegetarian, and Fruitarian Athletes

05-07-2012 19:27

Since the Telegraph, the US' National "Public" Radio, and Yahoo Sports on July 5th chose to make criticize vegan and vegetarian athletes and to publicize critics of a Chinese athlete ban on meat, here is a record of a tiny fraction of the world champion vegan and vegetarian athletes. That same day, NPR, owner of 200 million dollars in fast food stock correlated to human disease, animal agony, global heating, energy waste, and famine, chose to promote fish suffocation and strangulation twice.

Two weeks to go: Take Back the Land! 12-18 July

28-06-2012 20:46

In two weeks we’ll be setting up for 6 days of resistance to corporate rule in the Douglas Valley. We’ll be taking on the UK’s largest opencast coal mining company, landlord-aristocrat-banker Lord Home and South Lanarkshire Council – together they conspire to make a few people very wealthy, whilst communities are left disempowered, disenfranchised and to suffer all the impacts that living next to opencast mines bring. The Douglas Valley is a sacrifice zone for the ruling class – but don’t despair! Scottish Coal are in big financial trouble and there’s been no better time to hit them where it hurts. In fact, its time to Take Back the Land!

Dirty Coal Plans Defeated: CONCH have won!

27-06-2012 14:10

Yesterday evening Ayrshire Power withdrew their plans for a new coal-fired power station at Hunterston on Scotland’s west coast – a great victory against new coal. They are also withdrawing from the current CCS demonstration project funding competitions, and the Public Local Inquiry set to take place this Autumn for the plans will also not be going ahead. Ayrshire Power says it took the decision because of uncertainties around securing the necessary financial investment to build the power station in the current economic climate – but we say its down to all the hard and tireless work of campaigners who have fought the plans for three years. Well done Communities Opposed to New Coal at Hunterston!

Protecting Seeds within Greek Crisis.

Institutional support on local varieties diminishes, while grassroots networks flourish

Greece is currently facing a severe financial and social shock monopolizing the majority if the news coming from the country. As yet there is little information circulating regarding the impact on the country's real richness and a national bank of equal importance, the one of its natural genetic resources and its agricultural potentiality. Conservation programs of local varieties have suffered diminution of the official State support, as an impact of budget cuts on public institutes. Nevertheless, support from local initiatives, organizations and individuals interested on preserving agricultural knowledge and seed heritage is on the rise, counteracting to further loss of biodiversity.

Landbouwactiekamp 5-10 July Den Bosch, The Netherlands

18-06-2012 12:43

agriculture action camp
From the 5th till 10th of July in Den Bosch in the Netherlands, ASEED will organize a 6 days long camp. The camp will involve workshops, trainings, discussions, and action, for good ecological initiatives, an alternative food chain, alternatives to industrial farming, and against gentech and meat industry, and more..
Do you know where your food comes from? Do you want to take food in your own hands and make the food chain shorter between the farmers and consumers? Do you also want to know more about the struggle against GMOs and industrial farming that is dominated by big companies? Do you want to organize actions against the meat industry and the imports of animal feed? But you are also interested in producing your own food on a sustainable, climate neutral, autonomous and social way? Are you not afraid of getting your hands dirty in a workshop? All of these and more will be covered during the camp. We invite activists, slow-foodies, farmers, gardeners, students, animal friends and people who want to learn and share skills on sustainable agriculture to come to the camp. Mark your agendas and join in!

Last year the first Agriculture Action Camp in The Netherlands took place in the Flevopolder with 70 participants camping on an organic farm for three days. We had a program full of workshops and discussions, and two actions close to the camp against GM crops and soy greenwashing. The participants opted for a replay, so here comes the second camp once again with an interesting programme of workshops, trainings, action and nice atmosphere.
