Last day to object to AWE nuclear warhead assembly plant - takes 2 minutes

Today is the deadline for objections to the current planning application from the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) for a new nuclear warhead assembly / disassembly facility on the Burghfield flood plain (there was severe flooding on the site in the summer of 2007). It will take you just a minute or two if you use the template:

The East Mids Highways agency has just publish details of a mjor road widening scheme between Nottingham, the M1 and East Midlands Airport.

There is mention of Non-Motorist road Users (NMUs), but it is clearly not sufficent.

Activists take action “In Defence of Ancient Forests”

Early this morning 15 activist under the banner of “In Defence of Ancient Forests” gathered outside the Australian High Commission, Australia House in London to protest the logging of old growth trees in Tasmania.

Banners hung from trees read “End Old Growth Logging Now” and “Save Tasy Rainforests”

There where unnecessary amounts of police in the area but no arrests.

A copy of the World Heritage Crisis Report detailing logging in Tasmania has been handed to the Environment Minister.

Bradford Councillor Anne Hawksworth cars vandalised

Bradford Council’s Executive member for the Environment, Councillor Anne Hawksworth, who supports the return of grouse shooting to Ilkley Moor, found her cars paint stripped and tyres let down during the night. The attack put her Vauxhall Tigra and Vauxhall Astra out of action.

Five hundred flash at heathrow

[London,Sat 17] Midday today, five hundred people flashmobed Heathrows Terminal 5 in protest at the governments decision to give the go-ahead on building a third runway and yet another terminal. Among the mob were four naked women, lots of red 'no expansion' t-shirts, umbrellas and Heathrows largest conga dance. It was all finished
within an hour.

Camp for Climate Action may shut down Heathrow to obstruct construction of third runway...

Following Gordon Brown's announcement, the next Camp for Climate Action national meeting will discuss a number of different proposals for future actions, including some which involve shutting the airport down completely.

"We will be the spanner in the works of 3rd runway construction" said one climate activist.
