Save Birmingham March on the Council House Don't let them vote through the cuts

March on the council house - meet 5pm opposite Waterstones - the Bullring - Monday February 4th

Rally February 4th 5pm at the Bullring: Albert Bore know the score, we won’t take it anymore!

Invite your friends, colleagues, community to all come out.

The government might say the cuts have already been decided but we say it's not too late. If they won't fight it in the chambers then we'll fight it on the ground in Birmingham.

Meet at the Waterstones by the Bullring at 5pm and march on the Council House where, at 6pm, the ruling Labour councillors are planning on voting for Albert Bore's recommended cuts to our jobs and services for the 2013 budget.

National demo for the Halesowen 4

On Saturday 26th January over 200 people marched through the streets of Halesowen in solidarity with and to demand the reinstatement of four maths lectures who were fired by Halesowen College purely for their students results. However the real reason for the sackings might have more to do with the fact that all four lectures were active union members trying to improve the poor conditions they had to work in at the maths department.

EVFbottleit The English Volunteer Force, a splinter group from the EDL, are having a demo in Birmingham on Saturday, 2pm, Centenary Square. They were originally going to be there last year but they bottled it to the disgust of their fans. Even the EDL think they're muppets. Antifascists will be out to oppose them.

EDL Outnumbered By Trees In Solihull - #edl @AntiFascistNetw

For the first time ever (with many more to come), the fascist numpties of the EDL were vastly outnumbered in by trees. Saving their bus and train fares, antifascist campaigners in the Midlands left the anti-Nazi campaigning in Solihull town centre to us, the natural environment. Not afraid of bad weather (like the fairweather racists), we well and truly outnumbered an inconsequential fascist rabble repetitively chanting monotonous, moronic racist crap.

Brazil: the perfect freedom of expression?

but I will defend to the death your right to do so!" "I don't agree with only one of the words you say, but I will defend to the death your right to do so!"(Voltaire),

It is controversial the relationship between freedom of expression and the degree of development of societies.
Many seek to justify the repressive character of the current regimes as a price that must be paid for achieving progress.
Throughout history, however, people fought and died for the right to speak, to question, to publish.

Inspector Stuart Bill of West Midlands Police wants to meet Brum's Critical Mass

The latest in the 'cops sniffing around Birmingham Critical Mass' saga  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2013/01/505274.html is that PC 2585 Dominic McGrath's boss wants to meet representatives from Brum's Critical Mass. Inspector Stuart Bill, or Stu Bill as he wants to be affectionately known as, has introduced himself on the Birmingham Cyclist Forum  http://www.birminghamcyclist.com/forum/topics/cycling-prohibited-in-birmingham-cathedral-churchyard?commentId=3004025%3AComment%3A89469

Justice for the Halesowen 4

A protest was held this morning at 8:00 outside every entrance to Halesowen College demanding justice for the Halesowen 4. David Muritu, Branch Secretary for Halesowen UCU, was dismissed from his job as Maths lecturer at Halesowen College on December 20th. The College failed to follow their own disciplinary procedure or ACAS guidelines (no evidence was presented 3 days in advance of the hearing), without anything other than deductive reasoning (his sacking was linked to results, with no regard for competency procedure or accurate review of statistical significance (his results are above national average). David has been rated as a grade 2 (good) lecturer by the College's own observation system. Three more Maths Lecturers, all of them active UCU members, face disciplinary procedures and the imminent possibility of dismissal.

PC 2858 Dominic McGrath harasses 'anti-social youth' and Brum's Critical Mass

Clearly, they don't like our Punk as Fuck tunes! Yesterday, Friday 4th January, witnessed a themed 'Punk as Fuck' Critical Mass on the streets of Birmingham. The mass went well from all accounts, but earlier on in the day West Midlands Police and the authorities of Birmingham Cathedral conspired to move the meeting place of the mass from the grounds of St. Philip's Cathedral to Victoria Square:  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/birmingham/2013/01/505262.html?c=on#comments Birmingham Critical Mass has met regularly in the grounds of the Cathedral for over 15 years, approximately 7 of which have been accompanied by a small soundsystem.

West Midlands Police Sniffing Around Birmingham's Critical Mass

Birmingham Cathedral letter to Birmingham Critical Mass I thought I'd post this up here even though the Facebook group appears to be the main platform where people communicate about the mass. This platform has numerous advantages over discussing issues such as this. Namely, there is a much higher degree of anonymity on here and less of a chance of them profiling us. We can also discuss some of the issues here without the narcissistic crap associated with social networking and in terms of process we can try and ensure consensus decision making is adhered to. At this point, I'd like to point out that as far as I know, nobody has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the mass in terms of where it meets or take the initiative to liaise with cops or Church officials without the consent of the mass as a whole.

The mass last night with the 'punk as fuck' theme, as it gathered in the grounds of the Cathedral, was met by cops on bikes who distributed letters. The text of the letters is viewable on the Facebook group or if you have reservations about corporate social networking sites then you can read the letters here:  http://www.birminghamcyclist.com/forum/topics/cycling-prohibited-in-birmingham-cathedral-churchyard?xg_source=activity
