On Saturday 4th September, some people from the Cambridge Action Network set up a 'free shop' in Cambridge market square. Anyone could give or take stuff, yet the most important rule was: no money exchange.

Riots and Curfew in Kathmandu as residents target Manpower Companies

The city of Kathmandu, NEPAL, has been under curfew for the past four days following riots which occurred in the aftermath of the killing of twelve Nepali workers taken hostage in Iraq. Both the government and the manpower company responsible for sending them have been held to severe obloquy after it was revealed that each of the twelve believed they were going to work on projects in Jordan or Oman.

Cambridge SP campaign gains MPs support

The Simultaneous Policy is a package of measures being developed by SP Adopters around the world to address global problems such as climate change, unsustainability and unfair trade. Competition between nations for investment hampers political action. Politicians are asked to pledge to implement SP alongside other governments. The Cambridge SP Adopters' Group has received such a pledge from the Cambridge MP, another step to achieving implementation of SP. Follow the link for details.

Cambridge local press pro-fascist?

The Cambridge Evening News, monopoly local newspaper in Cambridge, seems to have been giving the National Front a remarkably sympathetic hearing in recent articles, uncritically reporting their boasts to get 100 people on their demo (which turned out to be about 12), and their slippery attempts to make their fascist position respectable. Are there fascists working for the Cambridge Evening News, or is this just a misguided attempt at 'objectivity'? And what can we do about it?

50 people protest against National Front

The National Front were to visit Oakington asylum seeker reception centre at 1 O’Clock today to protest against the presence of asylum seekers. 50 anti-fascist protestors were at Oakington today to “show that the people of Cambridge have no interest in their politics of hate.” (See  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/cambridge/2004/08/296144.html). The fascists, however failed to show up.

The stall Seven people leafleted the Grafton Centre in Cambridge, to build for the anti-fascist counter demonstration outside Oakington detention centre. The National Front has anounced that it will hold a rally there to protest against immigration policy. Anti-fascists will be there too!
