GM Crop Trials - Protest

The first GM Crop Trials in years are getting underway in Cambridge. This is widely being viewed as a test of public opinion and if we let these trials go ahead with little or no opposition, more GM trials, and eventually commercial growing will be here before we know it. Huntingdon Injunction stumbles at the last hurdle

Animal testing company Huntingdon Life Sciences were hoping that their Protection from Harassment Act injunction would put an end to protest outside their sites. Last week saw the four year process finally come to a close with a whimper. Normally the mainstream press would be celebrating about the company getting their way, but the victory was hollow and the protestors came out with more than they went in with. Lakenheath 8, SOCPA 128, Trial dates

The ‘Lakenheath 8’ Pete, Richie, Mell, Lesley G, Lesley A, Margaret, Irene and Emma now have their trial dates for the action they took last October. The trial will take place on the 6th, 10th and 11th of July 2007 at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk courts.

Local youth venue with community role in danger

SAVE THE SQUARE! The Square in Harlow is a venue subsidised by Essex County Council (ECC), which has run cultural programmes, "rock school", art projects and even a "film school", for years. It regularly has visitors from the surrounding counties, London, and even further afield. The Council are instituting new policies which will lead to its closure.

Update on Lakenheath 8 trial

After more messing around by the prosecution, the trial of the
Lakenheath 8 has been adjourned until the 6th of March. The trial
is the result of an action last October, when the activists entered USAF Lakenheath nuclear base and chained themselves to the gates of a munitions storage area to stop the movement of cluster bombs.
