on Wednesday 16 January 2008, at 1.30 pm, for the duration of the afternoon
to protest against the death of Ms Jamie Pearce, aged 24
who died in the care of the jail on 10 December 2007

Two Years Too Many - London Demo - Kader Must Stay

Friday, 18 January 2008: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION in support of Abdelkader Belaouni

In London, demonstrate at the Canadian High Commission, west side of Trafalgar Square, at 1pm.

On 1 January 2006 Algerian Abelkader Belaouni (Kader) took refuge in St. Gabriel's Church in Montreal to avoid deportation from Canada. Despite an outpouring of support, he has remained a prisoner in the church ever since, unable to leave for fear of being arrested and deported. That's two years too many!

We Own The Streets - Freedom of Assembly day of action 12th January

At a public meeting on the 2nd December, we collectively decided it was time for a campaign for the freedom to assemble in the UK. This was in response to continued police repression and the Government's consultation 'Managing Protest around Parliament', which proposes giving the police powers to censor the content of banners and placards, and that the laws about restrictions and notifications which currently apply to marches should be extended to static demonstrations. Pensioner Jailed for Opposing Trident Nuclear Weapons

IRENE WILLIS, a 62-year-old peace activist from Southend, Essex was today sentenced to seven days' imprisonment by City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court for refusing to pay a fine of £50 (+ £50 court costs). The fine was for deliberately obstructing traffic around Parliament Square during an anti-nuclear protest on 14th March 2007, the day Parliament voted to replace Trident, despite a huge Labour backbench rebellion. Police manhandle Tesco biofuel protestors – corporate protection gone mad?

3 protestors who arrived to set up a peaceful protest against Tesco’s investments into biofuels were manhandled by Police in central London on December 8th who forced them into a metal pen. Despite, this a peaceful protest was held for an hour including a stop by 300 cyclists and 1 minutes silence for those who are suffering or who have died as the result of massive expansion of large scale biofuel plantations across the South.
