Zero tolerance on Lewes Road Brighton??

This is weird - just heard today about two mates who both had (separate) overly thorough searches on Lewes Road in Brighton. Thought it's worth posting to see if anyone else had the same experience or has a view on the leaglity of the searches. Seems to go beyond the normal definition of a stop and search.

Mayday Workfare Demos Shut Ox St. Stores - report

After the London Mayday trade union march up to 300 people took part in a roving anti-workfare demo with a banner reading "Workfare is Stealing Our Jobs", shutting down various branches of MacDonalds, Greggs, Topshop, BHS, Holland and Barrett and others including Boots, Pizza Hut, Greggs and more all along Oxford street and beyond. The protest was called by the London Solidarity Federations and supported by Occupy London. The final destination for Occupy London was to retake Paternoster Square.

Mogous Abay
Mogous Abay died on June 30th 1990 in suspicious circumstances. His death and the events surrounding it are a cause for concern. His brother, Alem-Seged, friends and supporters are convinced that Mogous did not commit suicide and they dispute the pathologist’s report that his death was caused by multiple injuries consistent with a fall from a great height.

The following piece has been written by Ashleigh Marsh, one of five currently being prosecuted under SOCPA legislation for her role is taking part at a picnic and sleep-out on the 31st October 2011, in order to visually show the effect that the criminalisation of squatting would have on between 20-50,000 people in England and Wales, ie having to sleep rough. Ashleigh is active in her community, for example working to get a new skateboard park built for local people in Woolwich, one of most deprived areas in London. SQUASH fully support Ashleigh and all the defendants as they face disproportinate charges, from Monday 23rd April, under the draconian and anti-democratic SOCPA law. This is Ashleigh's story:

This is not a typical movie review describing the movie, plot, characters, and themes, as well as celebritizing each actor by naming every other movie appeared in, etc., and yet have very “little” to say about how the movie might relate to real life. We will refer to an American writer, namely Chris Hedges, Pulitzer Prize winning author of several important books, to help contextual this movie. Herein we visit a few major “themes” as related to social and political issues in the real life of the audience as drama of human history including that as compares to ancient Rome.

Judge criticises MoD Plod & dismisses charges against Lindis Percy

A long drawn out case against Lindis Percy has ended in North Yorkshire with the District Judge dismissing all charges. The Judge was highly critical of the police behaviour in this case, including 'mystery' police statements, failure to record the incident and failure to interview key witnesses. She concluded that the case was weak, vague and contained significant inconsistencies. Lindis was awarded costs.

Antifascist demo in Katowice (Poland)&police repressions - 108 arrested!

On Saturday, 14 of April 2012 around 250 members of National Radical Camp (Polish far right organization, ONR), neo-nazis and football hooligans came to Katowice, a city in southern polish region of Silesia to commemorate 78 anniversary of creation of the pre-war ONR, openly fascist and anti-Semitic group responsible for numerous assaults on left – wing activists and Jewish minority. In response to this sheer provocation, Silesian Antifascist Movement organized a counter - demonstration that has gathered around 150 people. Their protest was attacked by the riot police squads, and more than 100 people were arrested and unlawfully fined for ‘disturbing the legal demonstration’ (which means the fascist march). Six antifascists were charged with ‘serious assault on police officer’ (maximum penalty – 10 years in prison).

Yesterday ,disabled people came from different parts of the country and assembled at Leicester

Square and moved off towards Trafalgar Square. It started raining intermittently. Police accompanied us and were not happy that we were on the road. They tried to get information and we heard them asking what were our plans but none of us spoke to them.

Arriving at Trafalgar Square, 2 groups of wheelchair users split up and block up two junctions. Police tried to get us off the street while activists chanted and voiced their protests.
