The (we're not fascists, honest guv!) English Defence League (EDL) descended on Leicester on 10th October, 2010, for a day of racist taunts and attacks on anti-fascists and Asian residents of the town. Despite a rout in Bradford in August, the EDL were out in force and a crowd of over a thousand soon proceeded to hurl beer cans, rocks and fireworks at police and counter-demonstrators.

Why do the police accept the EDL/CU line?

04-12-2009 14:24

Notts police seem to believe that the English Defence League / Casuals United are a peaceful non-racist grouping, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. Is the because (a) The police are stupid, (b) They don't think it matters (c) The EDL/CU agenda suits them?

Poster for the community festival
In response to the news that the English/Welsh Defence League were planning a demo in Wrexham on Saturday 21 November to protest against plans for a new mosque in the town, a coalition of local groups and political parties decided to hold an event to 'celebrate diversity' rather than meet the E/WDL in direct confrontation.

This is a short report from the day, with some photos.

Corporate Watch: NDET issues bail conditions designed to prevent protest

19-11-2009 11:39

Following two house raids in Evesham and Gosport in the early hours of Tuesday 10th November, four animal rights activists were arrested, charged with conspiracy to commit criminal damage and given wide-ranging bail conditions designed specifically to prevent their participation in any facet of animal rights campaigning. The charges are based upon the seizure of a solitary piece of 'evidence' in a raid a year earlier.

The raids commenced at 7am when police wearing balaclavas, including members of the National Domestic Extremism Team (NDET), raided two houses. At one address masked police scaled the walls and broke windows, instead of knocking on the door, to gain entry. At the other, 20-30 police burst in brandishing fire extinguishers. From these two raids four people were arrested and later charged with conspiracy to cause criminal damage. The arresting officer was DC Mace, of the NDET London, and the accusations relate to several minor acts of criminal damage in the south of England, claimed by anonymous animal rights activists.
