#TIMETOACT2015 Climate Change March 7/3

10-03-2015 07:09

Polar Bears on Parliament Square
7th March, 2015 was the day of the first big march of the year in London. It started in Lincoln’s Inn Field. The sun was with us and so was the party atmosphere. A band was playing some cracking music, food was being served and it felt like it was already summer. Despite the hot weather a group of Polar Bears had decided to join the march. An immediate hit with the crowd they had travelled over from Heathrow Airport having completed a direct action against the third runway. (Video of Heathrow Action -  https://vimeo.com/121598803 )

UG#704 - Legal Restrictions as Fictions (The Deep State's Passion for Big Data)

28-02-2015 03:10

Audio
This time we hear a pair of talks from 31C3 - the latest Chaos Computer Congress - both by insiders with extensive experience on the subject of mass surveillance. First, NSA expert, James Bamford, on the relationships between the NSA and the big telecom companies. Next we hear Caspar Bowden, on the legal basis for the NSA's mass surveillance program, PRISM. Microsoft summarily dismissed him from his job of 9 years as head of privacy after he raised this issue, and he has spent the last 3 years alerting people to the danger ever since. In essence, he says, the deliberately complex legal regulation of data privacy, which he summarised at the very start of the show - gives Europeans no effective rights against NSA surveillance, whilst affording Americans rights against spying by other nations. Although neither speaker seems to have much idea about the deep state, their talks nevertheless provide useful information.

Revenge4Rémi, StreetFires4NuclearIndustry, PrisonSociety&GreenCapital

25-11-2014 18:01

(November 25th in Bristol:)

French police have killed Rémi Fraisse while they try to rout a combative forest occupation that prevents the Sivens dam. We have burned a vehicle in the service of the French multinational GDF (who work towards the new nuclear reactor not far away at Hinkley Point on top of other nuclear projects in many countries, force dams on irreplaceable Amazonian indigenous lands with the support of Brazil's military, provide facility management for the police force in this region, run utilities on the Shetland Islands for one of the biggest oil and gas terminals in Europe, manage multiple French prisons, and all around design technologies which attempt to disguise industrial capitalism as sustainable development for the same banks and commercial entities as always).

This was in the Long Ashton area, where we then also burned an audacious 4x4, two luxury sports cars, and a vehicle of OCS (who are considered one of the top security companies in the UK, providing guard personnel, patrols, CCTV instillation and monitoring, etc.).
