London InterACTIVE diners club / radical assembly

This week sees the second Interactive Diners Club, an initiative relaunched for the 21st century. Those who experienced the original pre Criminal Justice Act Interactive Diners Clubs in the early nineties, the RTS meetings of the mid 90's, or the late 90's London Underground meetings etc. will know what kind of thing to expect. The idea is to inspire and re-energise each other, form new links, strengthen old alliances, share skills and resources, raise awareness and get people involved. Read more >>

Street Blitz London, 1-15 May 2008

After a moderately successful first run last July the fortnight of street-art returns to London. The concept is simple but potentially very effective and by utilising the power of the Internet (and benefiting from a growing common ‘net literacy amongst the great unwashed) it opens up the whole city as a gallery space; and not confining it to internal, controlled and possibly inaccessible spaces. Putting people into London's empties

Squatters Estate Agents, putting people places
As part of days of action for squats and autonomous space a squatters estate agents was been set up in a newly opened squat in the centre of London. It consisted of display of eighteen empty properties ranging from abandoned houses and flats, to empty pubs, shops and even government buildings. Some would suit small residential squats and others grand large scale housing communities, squat cafes, freeshops or social centres. Along with photos of each property, details were given about their location, history and suitability for squatting.

London's Shoreditch New Squat Pics

The first artworks appear in as you turn into Bowl Court ...
Here there are some shots we took on Sunday afternoon at the new social centre that was squatted in Shoreditch (London) to coincide with the Global Days of Action for Squats and Autonomous Spaces.

The building is in an amazing location. It is not only central, but it also sits right in the middle of an area right next to the City that is being highly ‘developed’. The contrast between the previously neglected building with the new glass and metal towers is almost beyond belief.

The crew maintaining the squat, have done an impressive work to bring a previously ‘condemned’ building back into life. Three floors have now made been available to the community. The space has got an entrance area with a free shop, info stalls, a squatters estate agents, and a café. The ground floor also contains a soundproof room for screenings and music, and in the upper floors there a few rooms (some pretty large) that had an exhibition.

Long and exciting life to the new social centre! Read more >>
