Riseup! Radio #7 August Show – Climate Camp Special

31-07-2008 20:15

Some of our listeners, always looking forward to a new show

A very special show for a very special month! Almost entirely recorded at the Sumac Garden Party, on 20th July, it features live recordings from bands such as Kembasemba, Wholesome Fish and the Bonsai Project. The Garden Party took place to raise funds and awareness for the Climate Camp and there was plenty of it.. There is also a report from the strawbale building going on at the Ecoworks allotment, there is talk of the upcoming mobilisation against the BNP festival and a wicked report by Louisa from the Forest Fields Community Centre Open Day. Also poetry by Howard and Ceinie reports from Scrufts, the first Forest Fields dog show. And there’s some more stuff but you’ll have to tune in to find out more.. We’ll be off to the Climate Camp this coming week. You can follow live radio coverage from UK Indymedia.

Another Letter For The Pope And For Ireland

Another Letter For The Pope And For Ireland

While the White Pope plays the PR game at home the Black Pope does the biz abroad.
Nothing new in East Timor, Vietnam, Rwanda or Croatia

The following Letter appeared in the Irish Independent dated Wednesday 30th of July 2008. Its contents , which I believe, and which, apart from other references , is intelligible, hinge not too remotely on Papal hypocrisy as well as the infinite depravity of my country under the Papacy’s influence. The Popes even give Caesar a bad name!

An Egyptian Cult - Pictures taken secretly inside Dublin Central Freemasons Hall

27-07-2008 20:03

Today Freemasons may deny that any part of their cult hearkens back to the pagan gods of the Nile. Yet in Freemasons Hall, Dublin, home of the world's second oldest Grand Lodge, the Holy Royal Arch Room contains two large sphinxes and other sculptures aping Ancient Egypt. In Philadelphia, USA, the Masonic Temple boasts 'the finest specimen of Egyptian decoration outside Egypt'. Even London's Great Eastern Hotel at Liverpool Street station has a magnificent Egyptian Temple for lodges to rent for their ritual 'nights out'.

It all ends with a T-shirt - Chavez & the King of Spain hug & make up.

25-07-2008 14:50

neither of them do shut up. therein lies the twain lie of global class war
The Spanish speaking world gave the English speaking world a simple phrase to remember & as many millions did put on their mobile as a ringtone at the 17th Iberian Americas summit in 2007. Hugo Chavez speaking out of turn heckled the Spanish PM Zapatero gurgling away in fine form over how Aznar was a fascist. To which Zapatero (ZP) replied in exasperation that Aznar had been democratically elected (presumedly by the fascist half of Spain's voters). Hugo "the man" Chavez didn't stop his harrangue. Finally the King of Spain, Mr Bourbon shouted "porque no te calles" complete with upside down question and exclamation marks in the familiar form meaing "Why don't you shut up?!"

"La Pastora Durrut" of the Maquis a heroic story of autonomy.

20-07-2008 17:28

a brave man who lived and fought bravely for liberty in a darkened age.
Hopefully later this year will see a book by José Calvo published which draws on files and archives and interviews and his own attendence as a youth at a trial of one of the "Maquis" those guerillas who offered the last organised resistance against Franco and fascism in Spain from the end of WW2 and the vain hope that the allies would re-establish the legitimate republic through to their dwinding end in the 60's.

His book will at last tell the story of One of the Maquis who has long needed reclaiming from the lies and distortions of the past.

An individual who took the nom de guerre as a Maquis, or member of the AGLA (usually denominated as communist), of "Durruti" (after the honoured Barcelona anarchist). Before that at the age of 32 he had taken the equally momenous step of taking the name "Florencio" in replacement of the "Teresa" which his parents upon seeing his genital malformation had registered on his birth certificate "to avoid later complications" & it was said "military conscription".

"El Solitario" goes down : was he the last "anarcho-bank" robber?

20-07-2008 11:12

I reckon this tale is more ephemeral than educational. I do not publish it with the intention of encouraging youngsters interested in anarchism to go robbing banks or shooting cops - but I do think it is ephemera worthy of its archiving on an English language Indymedia.

The last week saw the Spanish state, its armed police Guardia Civil, and media establishment put away Jaime Giménez Arbe a bank robber known as "el Solitario" after his extradition from Portugal on charges of murder (of 2 Guardia Civil agents). He had run rings around the Spanish authorities in a career which saw him alledgedly commit over 30 armed robberies in the Spanish state in a period of 15 years.

He declared himself to be an Anarchist & addressed the court in Spanish and Arabic.
