Defend your local news media - Town Hall meeting, 13 September

This local news campaign group was set up around a year ago, to see what could be done about the threats to the quality and independence of the local news media, as well as the crisis affecting public service broadcasting. This is the crux of the issue. As long as indigenous people are treated as second-class citizens, petrol sniffing and other substance misuse will continue unabated. Relegated to third-world conditions and no hope of making it in the white man's world, many indigenous young people out bush have no alternative other than wiping themselves out.

The Bristol-based Bristle magazine collective celebrates publication of its 20th issue, in it’s 8 year existence, with a massive benefit party at the Malcolm X Centre on September 17th (full details below). This event is being organised in association with the Bristol Dissent group ( dissentbristol@subsection.org.uk), with proceeds going to help those Bristolians facing charges arising from the anti-G8 protests in Scotland this July (Bristle will take just a small cut to fund future publications).

The Waterloo Fiesta is an annual event organised to bring together the residents, friends and families of Waterloo Crescent, near the Arboretum in Nottingham. This years event was drenched in sunshine and was great fun.

It ran from 2pm-9pm, and featured 5 live bands (ish), a BBQ, face painting, juggling, lantern making, films and slide projections.

Great success, looking forward to next years....
