16-02-2009 01:18The stunt, for it can only be described as such, of the police intercepting several vehicles on the M65 on their way to join the convoy, as a part of an operation under the much-abused anti-terror laws, was a clear and unprincipled attempt to discredit the convoy.

14-02-2009 12:46Dust of Tuesday's voting battle settled down and the battle of forming the next Israeli government has just begun. With Benjamin Netanyahu poised for premiership and Avigdor Lieberman, leader of a “racist and fascist” party (as condemned by Talia Sasson of the Merez party) very well positioned to be the king or queen maker of the next ruling coalition, the Palestinian people and the whole region will have to brace as from next March for an Israeli government of war.
Why is the Obama administration hell-bent on continuing rendition, and covering-up torture? Why are Western states complicit in these illegal activities? How can the systematic perpetuation of such criminal practices under the rubric of the 'War on Terror' be conducted by the very states who claim to be the guardians of 'international law' and 'human rights'?
13-02-2009 15:32Please join the London Guantánamo Campaign and Brighton Against Guantánamo as we protest outside the US Embassy on Tuesday lunchtime calling on President Obama to deliver on his promises and his commitments to human rights and the rule of law by releasing Binyam Mohamed.
This has been an extraordinary week for British resident, torture victim and Guantánamo prisoner Binyam Mohamed. Last Thursday, his lawyers’ ten-month campaign to secure the disclosure of documents in the possession of the British government, which apparently confirm details of his “extraordinary rendition” and torture, sparked a crisis when the High Court judges in his case, Lord Justice Thomas and Mr. Justice Lloyd Jones, bowed to pressure from the foreign secretary, David Miliband, not to make public a summary of the evidence because the US government had threatened to re-evaluate its intelligence sharing relationship with the UK, which “could inflict on the citizens of the United Kingdom a very considerable increase in the dangers they face at a time when a serious terrorist threat still pertains.”
There are disturbing signs that business as usual is planned, more witch-hunt cases will follow, and "war on terror" efforts will persist for another four years. It's not change to believe in, in fact, none at all at a time the need is greater than ever.

10-02-2009 18:22How do we deal with terrorism guys? I know, let’s have an ad campaign in Pakistan highlighting successful British Pakistanis. That will really get the Taliban thinking twice! I’m assuming that’s how the conversation before they launched this:
10-02-2009 12:22At the centre of this weekend’s 45th Munich Security Conference was the speech given by the new US Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday. His speech had been keenly anticipated by the assembled audience of 300 leading politicians and state officials, including 13 heads of government and state and 50 ministers. They were eager to hear of the new content of US foreign policy under President Barack Obama and evinced a desire for the revival of transatlantic collaboration.
10-02-2009 00:41Economic recession, not only threw Iceland into the throes of bankruptcy, political protests against the social crisis, now even toppled its government. Obviously, because of structural recession, elsewhere this type of economic collapse will continue . Will Ukraine be next? And finally, who?
09-02-2009 22:35Students at the University of Rochester (UR) and their supporters from the community occupied a campus building February 6 in solidarity with the victims of Israel's siege of Gaza--and in a matter of half a day declared victory after winning important concessions from the administration.
