Crossrail dumping on taxpayers and the East End of London

06-11-2005 11:27

Crossrail is one of a range of unjust and financially flawed schemes that are likely to benefit developers and result in displacing local communities are being promoted by the Labour Government. Cross London Rail Links (CLRL), the publicly funded Crossrail is 'a 50/50 joint venture company formed by Transport for London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT)... tasked with promoting and developing two new routes through London... Crossrail was allocated a budget of £154m in 2001...' ( http://www.crossrail.co.uk/pages/whatiscrossrail.html) Crossrail has already spent £150 million. According to Business Online, Crossrail has since been forced to admit that the scheme is more likely to cost £17bn (cost of 34 new state-of-the-art hospitals or 340 new schools) by 2007 instead of previous projections of £10bn. But even the funding gap for the £10bn cannot be met. In the North of England, the Government's Housing Renewal Pathfinder schemes involves demolishing 400,000 houses to build more expensive homes, which displaces one community for a wealthier version through exploitation.

Thousands flood streets to protest draconian laws

05-11-2005 19:34

These orders will be imposed for no crime
There is widespread unease among Government backbenchers and civil libertarians. These orders will be imposed for no crime, control people and prevent people from speaking out or participating in their normal day-to-day activities. The backbench committee and Attorney-General were at loggerheads over issues of no principle in the laws.

BNP morons hold 'national demo'.

03-11-2005 22:53

The BNP 'National' demo.
On Wednesday the Fascist BNP called a national mobilization in support of their leader Nick Griffin and his rather embarrassing sidekick Mark Collett. Mark you may remember was the loser who allowed himself to be filmed saying all kinds of pro-Hitler shite by a BBC reporter. Both of them are up in court for incitement to racial hatred. There would have been a third defendant had former BNP leader John Tyndall not croaked in the month of July. This was a terrible shame as Tyndall was one of the more entertaining (not to mention incompetent) self-proclaimed neo-Nazi leaders.

Unite against Fascism and Yorkshire and Humber TUC called a counter demo outside the court.

A group of concerned and affected citizens of Birmingham met on Monday the 24th October 2005, to discuss the events of the prior weekend where at least two people lost their lives, many were injured, several seriously and residents and traders' properties were damaged or destroyed, some of which still remain vulnerable to future damage or destruction. Killing Each Other

31-10-2005 14:12

I was reminded this week at a film showing of ‘Handsworth Songs’ by a colleague, ‘Oppressed people internalize their oppressor’s contempt for them, acting on it first by killing each other,’ quoting Franz Fanon. Immigrant communities have always felt segregations amongst each other since their arrival into the ghettos of major European cities. Whether it is the streets of Birmingham or Paris, the children of immigrants feel unrepresented, isolated and generally ignored by mainstream society. They are often dealing with poverty, unemployment and racism.

Remembrance procession UFFC and Jean Charles de Menezes: Saturday 29 October

28-10-2005 18:28

Jean Charles de Menezes: his life was taken aged 27
Please join the family campaigns from 1pm until around 3pm, Trafalgar Square to Downing Street. We want legal justice for the families of all of the people, more than a thousand who died at the hands of the police. The police must be accountable when they commit crimes. We are opposing a shoot-to-kill policy which Parliament never approved, and Blair is trying to justify execution by the British government of innocent people like Jean Charles de Menezes. We want you to join us in remembering those who have died, and to oppose this Blairite policy.

Save Angela Maria Patterson

27-10-2005 22:33

Angela was born on 13th July 1966 in Jamaica. A number of years ago she was attacked in Kingston when some acid was thrown in her face. This blinded her left eye. She reported the attack to the police, and the police told a gang that she was an informer. She was forced to leave her children and go into hiding because of the threats to her life being made by the gang. Even whilst in hiding the gang found her and shot her, fortunately only wounding her in her leg, however her nephew was killed.

WMA Statement On Birmingham Riots

27-10-2005 09:01

West Midlands Anarchists condemn the violence metered out in the name of racism on our streets of Birmingham. Those who attack people because of their race are a cancer on the working class, no good can ever come from the splitting of a vibrant working class community like that of Handsworth down fictitious race lines.
