Raymond Gilber - A Report By Bruce Kent

Raymond Gilbert is still in prison with little hope of release soon. He was convicted in December ’81 of the murder of a bookmaker, John Suffield, in Liverpool. Suffield was stabbed to death on the morning of Friday 13th March that year. Convicted at the same time as Gilbert was John Kamara, who was eventually released by the Court of Appeal in 2000 after long years maintaining his innocence.

Short video of Tinsley House blockade

This is a short video of the Tinsley House blockade on 17th March 2009. It only shows the first hour or so of the action as the other tapes, along with camera, were confiscated by the police when the person filming was arrested. This tape, which only had about 10 minutes of footage, was 'smuggled' out of the police cordon before it kicked off to get it to journalists who were stuck down the road. Some of the footage was used by the BBC South East in their South East Today report - of course, without crediting us or mentioning that they were not allowed to film the protest.

Police are lying bastards (non news)

As if to prove what lying self serving bastards the cops are, the assistant chief constable of Kent Police wrote the following letter which was published in the Guardian. In the face of this kind of blatant spin it is not hard to understand why trust in the police is at such a low ebb. It barely contains a single word of a truth...

The Tinsley House blockade in pictures

the start of the blockade just after 7am Early in the morning of 17th March, about 20 anti-deportation campaigners from London and Brighton blockaded Tinsley House detention centre at Gatwick airport, where some Iraqi refugees due for deportation were being held. Using D-locks and superglue, the aim of the protest was to try and prevent the deportees being taken from the detention centre to Stanstead airport, where a special charter flight to Iraqi Kurdistan was scheduled that afternoon. Unfortunately the blockade was removed around 1pm, just in time for the WH Tours coach to get to the airport and Tinsley deportees be put on the flight, along with some 50 others brought from Campsfield and Dover detention centres. Nine protesters were violently arrested under Section 69 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 (failure to leave land after a warning) and taken to Crawley police station. For more details, see the protesters' press releases:
