Steve Pound MP on SOCPA - Radio 4 Christmas Repeal - Vote now!

Milan Rai and Maya Evans reading out the names of the dead in Parliament Square Radio 4 is running a Christmas Repeal listener vote, and the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (SOCPA) is one of the candidates. Steve Pound, Labour MP, was on the Today programme this morning talking a load of bull about SOCPA, but he was forced to admit that Maya Evans and Milan Rai should not have been convicted under the Act. This jolted me out of my apathy to go and vote and to send a comment to Today (below).

EDO Corp Director Found Guilty By US Inspector Of Conflict Of Interest

The US Department of Defense inspector general was instructed by US Congress last summer to carry out an 'independent investigation' into EDO Corp Director and former CIA man Dennis C Blair's involvement in the F22 multiyear contract, and has found paradoxically that he did breach conflict of interest rules, and yet this did did not affect the Institute for Defense Analyses report that recommended an extension of the F22 programme. Blair resigned as President of IDA and EDO Corp this summer after was revealed he and EDO stood to benefit financially from the contract which the so called independent IDA report recommended.

The New York Times has previously reported that despite the revelations about Blair, and opposition from George W Bush and Donald Rumsfeld to the extended contract for the system, that has taken 22 years to develop, and was intended for outdated Cold War battlefield scenarios, the Pentagon/Lockheed Martin F22 lobby group managed to sway the US Congress to extend the contract. The F22A Raptor is expected to enter active service in the next year and is the US's most expensive military weapon ever developed. Meanwhile the independence of a report by a Pentagon watchdog into a Pentagon preferred military project is obviously open to question.

Privacy, Email and Activism - a brief intro

Recently there was a conference for activists interested in security issues - obviously something that any activist should be interested in. Notes from the gathering are being compiled along with previous documents into a printed booklet for activists which is expected to be distributed next year.
In the meantime I've been doing a little additional research on solutions specific to securing email communication...

No ifs, no buts - corporate crime is completely fine!

No ifs, no buts - unless Blair says so. A major criminal investigation into alleged corruption by arms dealer BAE Systems was halted yesterday when Tony Blair claimed it would endanger Britain's "national security" if the inquiry went any further.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

ID cards, injunctions, CCTV with voice activated alerts, national license plate monitoring, face recognition, directional microphones, network profiling, DNA databases, keylogging, phone taping, bugging and tracking, these are just some of the tools of repression being used against those battling to save the world from total domination and destruction.

This message will self destruct in 10 seconds.... 9.. 8.. 6.. 5.. 4.. 3.. 2..
