This Saturday (15th March) @ 5pm there will be a meeting and info night hosted by people from Ireland about the struggle of the people of Rossport, County Mayo, Ireland, to stop shell from destroying their beautiful & pristine environment by building a high pressure gas pipeline through their land.

Action at World Biofuels Market, Brussels

Thursday morning, 08.00. Activists make an attempt to block all 7 sets of entrance doors and 2 gates to the World Biofuels Market held in Brussels this week. All but one set of doors succeeded. The action ended after 3 hrs with three people arrested, who were released after a few hours.

World says ‘No bloody thanks!’ to Australian sheep cruelty

World consumers are turning away in their droves from blood stained Australian wool. Horrific farm practices in Australia are being exposed thanks to the work of animal welfare groups including PETA and more recently the Swedish media. One of the current issues is the barbaric practice of muesling, ripping the skin off the backside of live sheep to prevent flystrike which diminishes the export value of this woeful trade. At the same time we witness corruption of Australian government officials and a representatives of Australian Wool Innovations, Kevin Craig.

British coal company spells disaster for Bangladesh

A UK company, Global Coal Management comes under fire from campaigners about the proposed open-cast coal mine in Bangladesh. The mine will displace thousands of people and could leave hundreds of thousands more with reduced access to food and water. The World Development Movement is calling on people to lobby Global Coal Management to force them to pull out of this harmful scheme.

Invitation to the Camp for Climate Action at Kingsnorth Power Station

This summer the Camp for Climate Action will pitch its tents outside Kingsnorth coal-fired power station in Kent for a week of education,
sustainable living and direct action.

Everyone is invited to the camp, which is now part of an international movement, with eight climate camps on four continents planned for this summer.

Shell Shuts Up

Student activists raised issues such as corporate corruption and climate change at a Shell-run event. Shell employees only commented "I do not have an opinion on this subject" when asked how they respond to these polemical matters.

A free one day workshop exploring:

++ How will Leeds be affected by climate change and the end of cheap oil?

++ How can we build a positive, low carbon future for Leeds?

++ We can all help to build a better future – come and find out how you can get involved!

Oil is running out and Climate Change is affecting our local environment. With the increase of flooding in West Yorkshire and disrupted growing seasons, the evidence of Global Warming is becoming more visible. The Transition Town network is a grassroots action model for making the change to a low carbon future. Transition City Leeds aims to strengthen communities so they can reduce their carbon emissions and fossil fuel dependency.

What the day will involve

++ An introduction to the transition town idea

++ Open space workshops on climate change and peak oil, and how Leeds can make this transition

++ Documentaries on the topic

++ Networking opportunities.

Lunch and refreshments provided.
