Darfur Asylum Seekers (Removals)

seekers from Darfur."

The immediate pretext for my request is the fact that the Home Office
is minded tomorrow to remove no fewer than three such people on
flights to Khartoum, and there are plans for further removals next
week.

In an extra ordinary art performance artist Mark McGowan and the comedian Aaron Barschak are to burn an effigy of Liam Byrne the Minister of State for Immigration and MP for Hodge Hill, Birmingham, in a protest against the deportation of asylum seekers to area's such as the Congo, Zimbabwe, Darfur, Iran and Afghanistan, to name but a few. The event is to take place this Saturday 31st March at 12.30am in Birmingham New Street at the junction with Needless Alley, just outside Starbucks.

Home Office round-up Darfur refused asylum seekers for deportation

It has been brought to the attention of NCADC that the Home Office
have for the past five days been rounding up nationals of Sudan who
have been refused asylum in the UK and that they intend to deport
them to Khartoum.

The demonstration against deportations to the Democratic Republic of Congo at Sheldon Immigration Court in Birmingham has been cancelled, and is being re-scheduled for April.

The other 6 nationally co-ordinated demos are still going ahead.

Fight Imperialism! will be holding anti-deportation stalls/protest on Saturday 31 March from 12pm-3pm on Market Street in Manchester city centre. You are invited to attend and take an active part. Actions speak louder than words. Say no to the racist Labour government's policies of starvation, isolation, detention and deportation of asylum seekers and refugees, where it matters: on the streets.

At least 8 Sudanese Darfurians were detained yesterday, 22 March, when they went to report at Loughborough Reporting Centre in the East Midlands. All were served notice that their fresh claims were denied.

Aksu Family belong to Glasgow

Yamur didn't get a chance to blow out the candles on her cake. Instead her mum and dad were handcuffed and with her, her sister, 14-year-old Pinar, and her brother, 10-year-old Byram, were taken in a blacked out van to the Dungavel Detention Centre. Two days later they were transferred to Yarl's Wood IRC.

Waku Family Must Stay

At 7.00am on Monday the 19th March 2007 the Waku family were awakened when Immigration Officers forcibly entered their home in Cardonald. The children watched their dad being handcuffed and led out of the house to a waiting van. The rest of the family were then removed one by one from their home and put into waiting vans. They are now in Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre.

On Friday 23rd March 2007 yet another Kurdish Alevi family from Newcastle are due to be deported to Turkey against their will on British Airways flight BA676. Café Dagon has lived in England since 2000 and his wife Hatice and his children Aidin (18) and Aysun (15) joined him a year later in 2001.

While constituents of Siôn Simon MP talked to him in his surgery, supporters of a campaign to keep English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes free of charge were outside collecting a petition in Erdington High St. They had a warm welcome from many local residents.

Another Kurdish TCAR family snatched

Another Kurdish family who have been living in Newcastle for the last 6 years, and who have been active members of TCAR (Tyneside Community Action for Refugees) are due to be deported to Turkey this Friday. There will be an EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION against the family's deportation on Wednesday 21st March, 4.30-5.30pm outside Government Offices North East, Gallowgate (opposite St James Park metro).

Unrest in Immigration Detention Centres

There is a history of resistance against detention which goes back to the day detention centres first opened. Uprisings and hunger strikes have always happened inside these monstruos institutions, but they seem to be on the increase, especially in the last five years. This is more than likely a result of incarcerating larger masses of increasingly desperate people.
