Hospital Staff Protest In Southport and Ormskirk

Health workers will demonstrate outside Southport and Ormskirk hospitals in response to its latest round of job cuts. Amicus and other unions will mount two protests next week after the NHS trust revealed it will sack more than eighty staff in coming months.

Car maker PEUGEOT have sacked 2000 workers, and are planning on uprooting their production plant to Eastern Europe, so that they can pay workers far less money and make them work in appalling health and safety conditions.

Ambulance Staff Strike Back

Ambulance workers across Merseyside and Cheshire have gone on strike in a dispute over pay. Technicians, who assist paramedics in ambulances, began a 24-hour walkout on Thursday after the collapse of pay talks on Wednesday night.

It was revealed last week that director-general Mark Thompson saw his pay packet rise by £160,000, from £459,000 to £619,000. Adding insult to injury is the executive board's greed in swallowing inflated pay rises of between 10 and 30 per cent. BECTU members will vote for industrial action."

Mersey Ambulance Strike More Likely

An ambulance strike on Merseyside looks more likely this afternoon, after there no deal was agreed in pay talks yesterday. Ambulance Service Union leaders last night agreed to meet their employers one last time within the next 48 hours, after they submitted a list of demands through negotiators Acas.

New pamphlet: The Iron Column : Testament of a Revolutionary by Elias Manzanera

Elias Manzanera helped to set up the Valencian anarchist militia unit, the Iron Column, to unleash social revolution against the military and fascist revolt of July 1936 which began the Spanish Civil War. The Iron Column was the most intransigent and most maligned of the anarchist militias. Manzanera served on its War Committee and here remembers both its achievements, and his comrades who fell fighting, not only against fascism, but for anarchy.
