Harmondsworth Support Network in Action

Over the last few days, I got a few emails about the events in Harmondsworth. You probably know the facts - Bereket Yohannes from Eritrea was found hanged at Harmondsworth detention center, the other detainees were very distressed, had a meeting the next day, refused to take food, wrote a statement. Now many of them are put in solitary confinement or sent to other detention centers as "troublemakers".

Swindon Borough Council say no2id

No2ID Graffiti found in Nottingham!

As I wandered about in Nottingham this afternoon, my eye was attacted to the stenciled graffiti near the shops in Bottle Lane of Briddlesmith Gate.
It appears that a pixie, with a political stance on the subject of ID cards, had put this up while no-one was looking.

Harmondsworth Detainees punished over protest at suicide

Not long after the suicide of Bereket Yohannes at Harmondsworth last Thursday, detainees met amongst themselves to discuss the death. They had a meeting with management to discuss their concerns over the death and in a 'Peaceful protest' issued a public statement below. Since then UK Detention Services and the Home Office have acted quickly to punish those who dared to protest.

Yesterday West Berkshire Council failed to object to AWE Aldermaston's planned new laser - a facility designed to allow AWE to recreate the conditions in a nuclear explosion. This will allow the UK to develop a new generation of nuclear weapons. In response Block the Builders have called a blockade of the WMD factory at Aldermaston on this Monday (30 Jan 2006).
