Shut Down Guantánamo! Weekly Protests in April 2008

17-03-2008 16:47

Since February 2007, the London Guantánamo Campaign has been holding a weekly vigil outside the US Embassy in Mayfair. At 6-7pm at the start of every weekend, come rain or shine, we’ve been there, supported by many individuals and groups over the past 14 months, to call on the American government to shut down Guantánamo Bay and other illegal jails in the “war on terror” and to respect human rights and the rule of law. The message is simple: no torture, no detention without trial!

Mehdi Kazemi case: British war press indulges again in 'humanitarian' propaganda

16-03-2008 15:10

"It is not exactly amazing, but certainly worthy of attention, that when struggles by women, and gays, and black people for social justice are actually successful, the ruling class finds a way to appropriate those successes in its discursive strategies - so suddenly, an attack on Sudan would be anti-racist, a defense of black 'Africans' against 'Arabs' (who also happen to be black), while an attack on Iran would be about liberating gay people and women etc." (Lenin's Tomb)

Griffin Takes Powerful New Approach to 9/11 Contradictions

16-03-2008 13:21

9/11 CONTRADICTIONS by David Ray Griffin is the fifth of his books to examine the official account of the events of September 11, 2001. This brilliant and highly readable book takes a new yet simple approach to the truth about 9/11. It focuses entirely on contradictory statements made by members of the Bush administration, government departments and agencies, and official bodies such as the 9/11 Commission. All the statements that Griffin examines are official claims in direct conflict with other official claims. How could this be? Why would the government keep changing "the official story"? The public, of course, is expected to take all the statements as incontrovertibly true, yet they directly conflict with one another.

Stop the War: Five Years on.

16-03-2008 00:09

Five years after George Bush declared victory on the deck of an aircraft carrier, Iraq is still a mess, and it's obvious his invasion, supported by his loyal yes-men in Britain, has been a disaster. That's why we marched in London on Saturday.

Bay of Pigs in Gaza

A rather interesting conclusion, but I'm sure 'pressure' was applied on this reporter. This is a scandal of monumental proportions, which proves that the perception 'we' have of the conflict is exactly the reverse.

Yet, the media remains silent ...

MoD Tells Teachers to Push Revisionist History of Iraq war

15-03-2008 14:08

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

There are some, in many governments, who fervently believe that pro-military indoctrination of their countries' children cannot ever start too young.

If you ever go to any US military bases' "open house", where there is a combination of military and carnival-type exhibits, watch carefully for the very articulate, "warm-looking" soldiers, chosen expressly for their comfort level with kids, and how they present the guns and weapons to children, particularly the little boys.

The kids are, as kids naturally are, brimming with curiosity, and these soldiers have an opportunity to make a big impression on these children.

What is never discussed is that these instruments, guns, bombs, etc., are engineered to kill and maim with maximum, deadly effect.

They're never told of the costs of war for civilian non-combatants.

War is not "fun": it is simply a government's extension of its foreign policy, period, end of discussion.

What this article teaches us is that governments to order schools to alter history, and that prior to 1966, there was no law to prevent it in Great Britain.

Presumably, the United States (aka Britain-Lite) follows the same patterns, which we know because the school textbooks still sell the claim that Lee Oswald acted alone in the assassination of John F. Kennedy even though that claim has long been discredited.

It is for this reason, and especially in light of the lies that led to war in Iraq, that nothing we have ever been taught in the state-sponsored schools can be trusted. Nothing. Not one bit of it.

History is a joke played by the victors on the vanquished before an audience too afraid to laugh.

War on the streets in Armenia

13-03-2008 15:19

State of Emergency
February and March in Armenia saw a disputed presidential election (19/2/2008) followed by eleven days of demonstrations in the capital Yerevan, broken up by tanks, police attacks and the imposition of a State of Emergency (1/3/2008). Eight people, including a child, were killed by police and around 100 were injured including 33 police. An apparently unrelated border fire-fight on 4/3/08 in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, disputed with neighbouring state of Azerbaijan with whom Armenia is still technically at war, broke a ceasefire agreed in 1994, killing 12 Armenian conscripts.

How the Forgotten City of Halabja became the Launch Pad for War on Iraq

13-03-2008 08:56

When the Bush administration went to war with Iraq in March 2003, the centerpiece of its justification for war was weapons of mass destruction. But its precise timing was driven, in large part, by the anniversary of the poison gas attack on the Iraqi Kurdish town of Halabja. On the fifth and twentieth anniversaries of these two tragic events, a study of the connection between them reveals a deliberate pattern of twisting and fabricating intelligence to meet policy objectives.
