24-02-2010 17:30Notice of the full council meeting (Shepway District) to determine whether Lydd Airport on Romney Marsh should be given the go ahead to expand.
The last survey showed public 3 to 1 against this which appears to have remained fairly solid. However SDC may go for the 'jobs' argument. If they pass it, despite officers objections, it will have to be pushed to a Public Inquiry. (Airport may appeal if SDC reject it-again to a PI)

The Save Victoria Baths campaign had called a demo in protest at the council's plans to shut Victoria Leisure Centre on April 1st.
The protest formed up in the Market Square where Unison were also holding a protest against the council, specifically their planned budget cuts which will affect the service provided to older people and lead to job losses. The usual Trot groups were also out, flogging copies of their paper. These groups were all dwarfed by the impressive turnout. Numbers are always difficult to gague at demonstrations, but I would guess there were around 80 people in attendace. The Evening Post, however, reported "more than 100 campaigners."

An NHS roadshow takes to the streets of Sheffield this week to call on people to prove their support for organ donation and join the NHS Organ Donor Register (ODR). The travelling roadshow is part of a UK-wide campaign to close the gap between the number of people who say they’d be willing to accept an organ if they needed one – 96% - and those who have pledged to donate by joining the ODR, currently 27%.
Nottingham City Council is trying to close Victoria Leisure Centre on 31 March 2010, despite having no approved plans for development and no planning permission to demolish what is already there. If they succeed, the current Leisure Centre will be lost forever and the local community will have nowhere to go.
The Council must be persuaded to change their mind!
