Squatting is still legal

04-04-2012 22:03

Washington Admits Aiding Syrian Opposition

29-03-2012 09:52

On March 25, The New York Times headlined, "US and Turkey to Step Up 'Nonlethal' Aid to Rebels in Turkey," saying: Other US allies were urged to do the same. Insisting no weapons will be sent belies heavy Western and Israeli ones delivered through porous borders for months. ... They include powerful explosives, small arms, submachine guns, machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket and anti-tank grenade launchers, among others. They've been used to kill civilians and security forces, as well as destroy government facilities. Russia repeatedly denounces Washington's one-sided support while claiming peaceful resolution intentions. Obama says aiding Assad's opposition furthers transitioning to a "legitimate government." In other words, he wants independent Syria replaced by a client state America controls. Then on to the next target for the same purpose - Iran.

The Open Place: London's newest anti-social centre?

07-03-2012 09:51

Inside the 'Open Place'?

On Friday 02/03, Londoners were invited to the opening of the 'Open Place', a "radical social centre" at 27 Acre Lane, SW4. They were promised " three films (not sure which ones yet but they'll be good) and a social evening with some grub and home made wine and beer."

On Sunday, 'Peckham squatter commented that the number didn't work, and that several people had attempted to find the centre and failed. Ian couldn't understand how that happened, as apparently "plenty" did find the place and a good night was had by all.

Homeowners: the gravediggers of capital

01-03-2012 11:39

In the previous issue of SHIFT, we launched a series of articles discussing the relevancy of lifestyle choices for radical politics. In the first article from the latest issue (Issue 14) to go online , TOM FOX continues the series with a critical look at housing cooperatives, arguing that networks such as Radical Routes have all too often tended to miss what exactly it is - or what could be - that's radical about coops in general, and housing coops in particular.

Occupation starts as camp ends

29-02-2012 13:37

Occupy Birmingham will be leaving the park behind Symphony Hall today. The occupiers have had a permanent presence in Birmingham City centre since October 15th, first in Victoria Square and latterly in the park on Cambridge Street. The camp is the longest occupation in England, it might be dismantling but this does not end the activities of Occupy, far from it. This is not the beginning of the end, but is the end of the beginning phase of Occupy.
