21 September is World Peace Day. The occasion has been marked in Wrexham for a number of years, starting in a small way with a service at the Catholic Cathedral and picnics for peace in town, and has grown year on year.
For 2013, there is a full programme of six events for peace over three days organised by various groups.

Soon after the formation of the EDL, one reason people started to realise EDL claims they only formed to oppose extremist Islam were a pack of lies, was because it turned out the EDL website had been registered by BNP "Gold" member Chris Renton. As of the 1st Aug 2013, the EDL's main Facebook page refers to a question asked by the EDL Admin as "my blunt question". The screen-capture of that conversation shows that the identity referred to by the EDL Admin as the person who asked "MY" question, is John Sheridan, aka Chris Renton, ie - the EDL's main Admin (still) is BNP activist Chris Renton!

A young woman was dragged by police from the ULU Cafe this lunchtime as shocked students looked on and tried to remonstrate with policemen. The woman is thought to be an activist for the ULU-based 3Cosas campaign, which works with cleaners in Bloomsbury to fight for pension rights and holiday and sick pay. University staff called police after people were allegedly seen chalking on the pavement outside the union building and on a small patch of Senate House Library, complaining of criminal damage to a Grade II Listed Building. The plaque on Senate House, which commemorates the founding of the building, had been chalked but later displayed no signs of damage after washing.
About an hour ago, police invaded the ULU building, hit a few people, and arrested someone on the orders of the University. Three or four police vehicles were present, and someone was dragged out onto the street.
The crime? Allegedly chalking on University property to highlight the fact that the University does not pay its workers sick pay, holiday pay and pensions.
Fuck these people.
Massive protests are sweeping Chile as students and workers demand a reversal of school privatization drives and wealth inequalities gripping the country.
Another philosophical episode this week, featuring a range of reflections from the wise on what life has taught them, and how (and why) the world has changed since their youth. Our main readings are books by Wendell Berry, John Taylor Gatto and Henry David Thoreau.

Reblogged from Anarchist Federation Scotland: Guest post by a Greek anarchist living in Scotland.
Τhe last few years have been a time of global capitalist crisis, where the financial system has, after two decades of frantic over-accumulation and fake development, collapsed yet again. The neoliberal promises of continuous development reached an end and we are all facing the results of this collapse, depending on the country in which we are living. The purpose of this article is to make a brief report of the latest repressive practices of the Greek state against the anarchist movement and Greek society in general as a result of this systemic crisis of capitalism.

I was absolutely horrified to read that the UK Government may be underestimating the numbers of families in poverty, by up to an estimated 40%, according to academics at Edinburgh University.
Whether in terms of biodiversity, Peak Oil, water shortages or whatever, we've looked many times on this show at the damaged and degraded planet earth that we are leaving for our children. This week we take another angle, looking at the damage done to the very brains and minds of our children.
This week, exceptionally, we hear two pieces from a single speaker, John Taylor Gatto. After a period of neglect following a stroke in 2011, Gatto is steadily recovering. We reflect on his genius with two classic talks: "Bianca, You Animal, Shut Up!" and "The Neglected Genius of American Spirituality".
