Oakington Detention Centre

About 120 people gathered at Oakington Detention Centre today (19th August) as part of a Cambridge-wide campaign to highlight the plight and ill-treatment of refugees in the UK. People tied ribbons to the parimeter fence whilst playing instruments and sharing food. An organiser from 'CAGE' explained, "We want people inside the detention centre to know that people on the outside care".

2.55pm we now have over 65 police from 2 forces forming a tight ring around about 15 demonstrators in the highstreet outside woolworths. We're holding placcards and sitting in the street while the large cordon around us blocks off pretty much the whole high street.

HLS Report - double overkill!

With the sun shining down a group of around 40 animal righs protestors picketed Huntingdon Life Sciences - the animal testing laboratory, north east of Cambridge. All morning the police had cordoned off fields, blocked roads, and set up heavily staffed observation points at local roundabouts.

Huntington forced overseas for financial backing

Huntinton Life Sciences, the firm which has supplied up to 500 animals a day to laborotories across the UK, is facing increasing financial difficulties. The company has today (15 Aug) announced it will be sourcing financial support in the USA after no backers in the UK and Europe could be found.

This man was detained for the purposes of a search but went limp and so was carried off the common by three police officers. He was later released when no drugs were found.
