I cant help thinking...

02-05-2001 12:01

...that this site is just a load of left wing propaganda, rather than an independent view of the news. The unbelieveable bias shown in your editorial makes you as bad as anyone else. Damn, that hypocrite phrase is on the tip of my tongue again.

Over-provision of aggressive police ruins peaceful day

02-05-2001 10:16

If the police had stood back, observing and letting us get on with it, only reacting when necessary instead of trying to control our movements, the day would have gone down in the positive annals of history.

02-05-2001 02:00

This is a provisional report (Tuesday evening) so not the full picture. An Account- Street Battles, Then Boxed in Holles St.

02-05-2001 01:53

I arrived on Oxford Street a little before 4pm. Heading west towards Oxford Circus and seeing the tremendous number of cops up ahead, me and my friend ducked up a pedestrian walkway to the north and found ourselves in the middle of a chaotic street battle in Market Sq./Eastcastle St./Great Titchfield St. intersection. Demonstartors launched firecrackers and flares along with plastic and glass bottles at the lines of police who were busy attacking unprotected people with shields and batons.

Police Repression and Brutality Used as a Means of Deterring Democracy

02-05-2001 01:04

The realities of the Quebec City FTAA protests were consistently ignored by the mainstream corporate media. Those of us who spent many hours at the wall that Friday and Saturday witnessed police tactics employed in third-world dictatorships. Chemical weapons and potentially lethal projectiles were used to strip us of our democratic rights. Yet mainly the protestors throwing rocks were condemned as "hooligans". The police were praised for exercising "restraint".
