Legalized extortion in Smalltown U.S.A. (Portsmouth, Scioto, OH) - SOMC Part III

15-09-2006 17:44

U.S. law firms and attorneys may get upset when they are compared to mafia and criminal connections. In the next few paragraphs, I will demonstrate that attorneys’ tactic is often the same as the original gangster extortion technique. Physical violence may not be involved, but the attack on personal property to obtain compensation by fear is just like extortion by mobsters. While mafia is against the law, legalized extortion is protected by Courts and by the Legislative systems, which are controlled by Bar Associations. Mr.R.E.Dever (Bannon, Howland & Dever Co., L.P.A.) exemplifies the abuses of the due process perpetrated by this kind of lawyers.

The Cottage Autonomous Social Centre has been violently evicted

15-09-2006 14:29

police and bailiffs in the ghetto
The Cottage Community and Youth centre in Sparkbrook, was closed by Birmingham City Council last year and left to rot. The building was occupied by a group of activists, who, along with local people, repaired the building, put it back into community use and helped setup a vibrant local campaign to re-instate the Cottage Community Youth Centre.

The Cottage of Content was boarded up in May 2005 when the building was declared ‘surplus’ to requirement by Birmingham City Council. During this time it was vandalised and neglected. It was then handed over to Birmingham Property Services to make a substantial profit out of yet another one of our buildings that are a part of our municipal heritage. Without any public consultation, the Cottage Community Youth Centre was shut down and scheduled for auction.

The auction would have inevitably meant that the property developers with the most capital would have bought the building instead of community groups and levelled it to the ground to make way for yuppie flats. A local councillor, responding to pressure from a local Somali group, managed to get the building withdrawn from auction and along with local people supported the occupation of the Cottage as a means of ensuring the building wasn’t sold off to the highest bidder and that it was looked after properly.

The 'writing on the wall' comes in different sizes

15-09-2006 11:50

The walls of the Immigration Service Midlands Reporting Centre are decorated with 28 large notices offering asylum seekers monetary inducements to leave the UK, including free travel.

However there are only three very small notices informing them that they are entitled to travel expenses when they are required to attend the reporting centre. One of the attending asylum seekers asked management at the centre, why the notices for travel expenses were so small and was told, "It is not in the interests of the Home Office to make them bigger".
