NRT Spoof action - 'Build the NDR: Concrete is Freedom!' The US embargo on trade with Cuba continues. This summer Pastors for Peace will again challenge the blockade with a friendship caravan. A fully stocked bookmobile will accompany it. Before the revolution there were only 32 libraries in Cuba. In 2002 there were 400 public libraries and 6000 school libraries. Cubans are avid readers and life long learners but Cuban librarians struggle to meet their needs under the blockade. We urge you join us in sending books to Cuba!

LibertyWalk 2008: A 4,913 Mile Walk For The United States Constitution

In 2008, the LibertyWalk group will walk 4,913 miles, or 26.5 miles per day, for the United States' constitution and liberties, in the shape of a star, symbolizing "hope." The money raised during the walk will go towards local charities nationwide. The event will begin on New Year's Day and end on the Fourth of July, crossing 20 states in 185 days.

Anti-nuclear activists needle German power giant's annual general meeting

Anti-nuclear activists have been demonstrating outside and inside the annual meeting of stockholders of one of Germany’s electricity giants, the transnational EON. A coalition of environmental groups protested in Essen against EON’s plans to expand nuclear power production. Some of the countries where EON is planning new nukes are Finland, Great Britain, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria.

Spain, Madrid. On may the 1 st and may the 2 nd streetfights in the city centre. About 3000 people against an unknown number of cops. 80 people hurt (20 cops). 20 people captured by police. barricades were built and many police vans demolished. banks and shops looted.
