How much taxpayers money for John Howard's scapegoat show trial?

06-03-2007 23:28

John Howard's scapegoat show trial
All that money should then be deducted out of the Liberal parties pension funds not taxpayers money. They won't need a pension once they're thrown in jail for their criminal acts.

06-03-2007 09:17

The Iraqi cabinet’s adoption last week of a law creating the legal framework for turning over the country’s oil wealth to American corporations has touched off a chorus of salutes from the Bush administration, congressional Democrats and the corporate-controlled American media.

To suit their own political ends
How is it that Prime Minister John Howard can accuse other people of some crime or lies? No, you do not need to be clairvoyant or have any special supernatural talents to meet up with or to see one of the more see-through inhabitants of politics in Australia today. You just need a strong heart and an eager mind. While other people, who are being accused, belittled, tainted or desecrated by numerous criminal politicians and their media allies. Politicians who don't lead us by any form of example and who break their own morals, principals, values, and ethics. Politicians who break their own laws in order to deceive us and to suit their own political ends.

US Congress remains in a state of mental paralysis

06-03-2007 01:43

Is this U.S. Congress a modern-day version of the German Reichstag, the governing body that watched in silence and total submission as a powerful war machine was assembled and then launched those preemptive attacks that led to the horror of World War II?

Timor-Leste: Bungle in the Jungle

05-03-2007 22:29

Prior to the leadership of John Howard and his defence minister, Brendan (studs) Nelson, the Australian Defence Forces always did Australia proud. The reputation of the ADF preceded them in any theatre of war. Aussie fighters were once considered highly specialised and skilled, so it is with a sad heart and severe disappointment that I report the raid on Alfredo Reinado’s hide-out resulted in the needless deaths of four Timorese and a ‘rebel leader’ who easily escaped to the mountains. No one is actually sure Reinado was present at the time of the attack!

Mass murder of Afghan women & children

05-03-2007 09:22

It is clear that passive killing, passive mass murder, passive holocaust-commission and passive genocide involve the same moral culpability as the corresponding active processes. Indeed you can be the judge of to what extent what is clearly an Afghan Holocaust, the Mass Avoidable Death (MAD) of Afghans, constitutes Genocide (albeit a Passive Genocide that nevertheless involves the same moral culpability as Active Genocide) by simply considering the precise wording of the relevant parts of the UN Genocide Convention.

Kurdish issue: Turkey to the negotiation table, Iran to the front!

05-03-2007 02:32

There is no question that neither Turkey nor Iran is willing to engage in a conflict with the Kurds. But, the fact that the negotiation process in Turkey has been, by and large, led by the USA, means that there is less hope for a healthy solution. US policy of bringing Turkey to the negotiation table while engaging Iran in a conflict will lead to tension between Turkey and Iran. As long as the USA and the UK hold the Kurdish trump card, PKK trump card, PJAK trump card, terror trump card, they will destabilise all the countries in the region.

“Anyone Can Go To Baghdad; Real Men Go To Tehran”

04-03-2007 23:26

“What does state mean?” asked Antonio Gramsci, the Italian political theorist. “Is it just the state apparatus -- or the whole of organized civil society?” In fact, he argued, State “is the dialectical unity between government power and civil society.” The liberal democratic state relies on civil society’s consent for its legitimacy. It therefore has to allow a sphere of non-interference in which ideas circulate and worldviews take shape. The endorsement that comes out of this seemingly free exchange of ideas gives legitimacy to the existing political order. Far from being passive observers, the ruling elite, through their control of mass media, ensures that their preferred worldview remains dominant.

Sy Hersh: Neolib Disinfo Operative?

According to journalist and author Douglas Valentine, Sy Hersh is a “disinformation specialist” pedaling half-truths, a claim Valentine makes in relation to Hersh’s story on “Preemptive Manhunting” in Iraq (i.e., a rebirth of the Phoenix program, the nefarious assassination operation carried out in during the Vietnam war). “

"The road ahead is long. It is littered with myths, secrecy and shame. Rare is the family that will be free from an encounter with mental disorders or will not need assistance and care over a difficult period. Yet, we feign ignorance or actively ignore this fact."

Who is the threat? US military budget 500 times Venezuela's

03-03-2007 09:25

Using dubious figures, and fallacious comparisons, the New York Times has published an article trying to make it appear that Venezuela is a military threat to security in the Americas. Actually Venezuela spends less than Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, and, of course, the US-- Washington spends about 500 times as much as Caracas.

Two East Timorese protestors killed by Australian troops

02-03-2007 20:30

neo-colonial operation
The entire political and media establishment is complicit in the Howard government’s neo-colonial operation in East Timor, and the latest killings have, predictably, produced not a word of protest. While posturing as opponents of Australia’s participation in the occupation of Iraq, the Labor Party and the Greens back every military intervention in the Pacific to the hilt—from East Timor in 1999, to the Solomons in 2003 and 2006, and the Timor operation last year.
