01-06-2007 11:58A view from the outside is far more revealing than the myopia offered from within. We are all apt to overlook the elephant for its trunk or ears when we are drawn too near a subject/object. In such a distorted world teacup ‘storms’ appear as hurricanes; the loss of perspective is the precursor to the loss of FREEDOM as the scope narrows, so our consciousness. Few in Oz seem to be aware that the opposition Labor party no longer has an ideological platform, the values of the traditional Australian Labor Party have been jettisoned for short-term gain, opportunism and expediency!

The current imperial slaughter in the Middle East, justified by the "Global War on Terror", that has resulted in at least 600,000 deaths in Iraq, is nothing new — the U.S. Empire has a long and sordid history of genocidal mass murder.
The history of the US imperialism and Empire is the subject of a series of ten monthly seminars from Dr John Marciano, "Empire as a Way of Life". Attached is a recording of the eighth of these seminars and the text upon which it was based. The first 9 of these seminars have taken place and the intention is to have the whole series published on this site; the last one will take place on 19th June.
This seminar, recorded on 17th April 2007 by the L.A. Sound Posse, runs for 39 minutes and includes the discussion following. It has been made available under a Creative Commons license. If this recording is broadcast please let the L.A. Sound Posse know. This recording was originally made available on the A-Infos Radio Project site.
The following text has been reproduced here with the kind permission of Dr John Marciano and he can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org. He introduced this series of seminars in the following way:
A fundamental purpose of our meetings is to understand the systemic nature of the U.S. Empire and the economic and military imperialism that is its lifeblood. The historian William Appleman Williams argues that empire became "a way of life" in the U.S., a "combination of patterns of thought and action that, as it becomes habitual and institutionalized, defines the thrust and character of a culture and society." This "way of life" has convinced many U.S. "Americans" they have a right or "manifest destiny" to impose their political and economic policies upon others.
Dr John Marciano is Professor Emeritus, State University of New York at Cortland, where he taught courses on social and historical foundations of education and class, gender and race.

31-05-2007 01:02The infamous Balibo murders perfectly illustrate Australian cowardice and Indonesian barbarity. It should be stated from the outset that the truth of the cold-blooded murder of the Balibo five has been known since the day of the crime in 1975. The cringing attitude displayed by successive Australian governments toward the barbaric Indonesians has made Australia a laughing stock in Asia. All successive Labor and Liberal governments that perpetuated the lie of a tragic accident (caught in a cross-fire) are guilty of criminal suppression of the truth and criminal collusion with the murderers -- grubby oil deals notwithstanding.

30-05-2007 08:29Like paranoid schizophrenic neglecting his meds, Senator John McCain tells us Osama will get us if the United States pulls out of Iraq.
Bush supporters, soon enough to lend support to McCain, Guiliani, or Romney, are so inculcated with impossible and fantastic Brothers Grimm stories about turban-wearing terrorists they have completely surrendered their higher reasoning faculties, that is if they had any to begin with.

29-05-2007 19:25The five Britons kidnapped in Baghdad work for Garda World, a Canadian security firm. Channel 4 news tonight led with a feature on them, where Jon Snow was pretty sceptical about their chances of survival due to their profession. There are 20,000 foriegn 'private security guards' in Iraq who are widely hated for acting like private mercenaries unconstrained by laws or morals. Jon seemed surprised to hear a few hundred of them have already been killed.
Attached is a one hour audio of Noam Chomsky speaking on 'a poisoned chalice': the media and the use of force, which was recorded at the 20 Years of Propaganda? conference held in Windsor, Canada, earlier this month. Noam Chomsky compares US aggression to Nuremberg standards of Nazi war crimes and discusses the occupation of Iraq, genocide and the role of the media in the fabrication of a pretext for war with Iran — it's pertiant to the discussion following the feature article on imperial disinformation.
29-05-2007 11:01This question has been asked twice now, and quite rightly hidden. For if your idea of an anti-Thatcher song is by the monster-rock Pink Floyd then you are probably just too dumb to educate. When Sid Vicious was signed up he was wearing a Pink Floyd T Shirt that he'd scrawled 'I HATE' on. Luckily anarchist protest songwriting has progressed a great deal since 'Anarchy in The UK' but I still hate 'the Floyd'.
29-05-2007 02:33Why is a Northern Hemisphere nation, JAPAN, permitted to flagrantly slaughter whales in Southern Hemisphere waters? Perhaps widespread inaction in the face of blatant Japanese smugness, arrogance, contempt for the environment, the International Whaling Commission and other nations is related to the world’s toleration of criminal wars resulting in hundreds of thousands of innocent human casualties! What chance do whales have if innocent HUMAN BEINGS are treated as expendable?
28-05-2007 21:50I have previously written about pornography. I have decided to write again, and present articles and websites that I believe present basic values of the anti-porn movement and why we are outraged that the sex industry is not targeted by humanitarians, and anti-globalization. If you consider yourself a humanitarian and are a porn user, please spend an evening reading through the information provided.
